Gwyneth Paltrow is not “threatened” by Matthew McConaughey‘s wife, Camila Alves, and her lifestyle site, despite a made-up report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this claim. A rep for the actress tells us it’s simply not true.
According to RadarOnline, Paltrow is worried about having to compete with Alves’ lifestyle brand, Women of Today, which shares similarities with Goop. An alleged insider tells the blog the actress thinks Alves’ company is “a horrible version” of her own and “she’s steaming mad over it.”
McConaughey’s wife launched her site in 2016, but the supposed source says she recently gave it “a posh makeover” and started going after “Goop’s target audience and even clients.” The questionable tipster further contends that Alves has flooded “Matthew’s cash into this project,” which is “by far the most competitive” beauty brand Paltrow has encountered since founding Goop in 2008. “It’s no wonder she’s threatened,” adds the “insider.”
This article is based on claims from anonymous and untraceable “sources,” but Paltrow’s own spokesperson tells Gossip Cop on the record it’s “completely false.” In fact, the actress has already made it clear she doesn’t consider other lifestyle websites as rivals. “There’s no competition,” Paltrow told Time magazine when asked about celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Alba having their own brands.
Paltrow went on to say she finds it “slightly misogynistic” to suggest there’s friction between lifestyle sites launched by women. “I want to do everything I can to support their businesses,” the actress said of her peers in the industry. She further noted that rumors of feuds between beauty brands emerge because people like “pitting women against each other, which is not founded in truth.” She added, “None of us think we’re in each other’s space.”
It’s also worth noting, RadarOnline’s premise isn’t original. Last year, Gossip Cop busted the blog’s sister publication, the National Enquirer, for falsely claiming Paltrow was threatened by Catherine Zeta-Jones launching a lifestyle brand. It seems the website decided to recycle the narrative and focus it on McConaughey’s wife this time around.
Not only does the blog know very little about the actress’s business ventures, it doesn’t have insight into her personal life either. Gossip Cop called out the site in April for wrongly reporting that Paltrow was pregnant. The only reason the website believed that to be the case is because the actress wore a baggy dress to an event. As time has shown, Paltrow isn’t expecting a baby. She’s not threatened by Alves’ lifestyle brand either.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
