Gwyneth Paltrow and Jay-Z did not have an affair, her rep maintains. The spokesperson is emphatically denying a claim made by Amber Rose in a podcast released this week. In the interview, Rose accuses Paltrow of being "Becky with the good hair."
On Beyonce's song "Sorry," the lyrics include, "He only want me when I'm not there/He better call Becky with the good hair." Many interpreted the lines to be confirmation that Jay-Z cheated on his wife, and that "Becky with the good hair" is the nickname Beyonce gave to the rapper's alleged lover. Following the song's release in 2016, there was extensive speculation about who "Becky" may be, leading to rumors about Rachel Roy, Rita Ora and other notable names.
But speaking on the "Make Speidi Famous Again" podcast with Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Rose alleges it was Paltrow with whom Jay-Z supposedly had an affair. The Oscar winner's name came up amid a discussion of so-called "sex-based secret societies," with Pratt claiming, without evidence, that Paltrow has taken part in one. That's when Rose declared, "I definitely think that Gwyneth Paltrow is, like, 'Becky with the good hair.'"
Pratt initially thought Rose was being figurative, using "Becky with the good hair" as a descriptor for a type of person. But she then insisted, "I feel like she's the one who was, like, [expletive] Jay-Z." Pratt responded, "Oh, in real life! Oh, because they were even hanging out." Referring to the actress' friendship with the couple, Rose went on, "They were like friends, and then, like, you don't see Gwyneth Paltrow with Beyonce anymore. It just seems like she was the one that was [expletive] Jay-Z, and now Gwyneth lost her husband, but, like, Beyonce's still with Jay."
When it was joked that she's offering a conspiracy theory, Rose started to back down, and Spencer yelled out, "Allegedly, allegedly!" But then she added, "I'm surprised no one thought of that." Rose has no hard evidence, of course, to back her contentions up, and her two arguments are easily refuted. She claims the women are no longer friends, but in an interview in May, Paltrow said Beyonce is the most famous person in her phone.
And while Paltrow and husband Chris Martin split before Beyonce's Lemonade album with this song came out, they've remained on great terms in the years since. In fact, the two are so close that Paltrow has repeatedly referred to Martin as her "brother," and he even makes a cameo in a New York Times feature on Paltrow that was just published on Wednesday. It is highly unlikely they would still have such a bond if she was unfaithful to him and cheated with one of the biggest rappers of all time.
To this we can also add an on-the-record comment from Paltrow's spokesperson about Rose's accusation. The rep exclusively tells Gossip Cop, "That is absolutely absurd and false." We'll update should the model retract her claim.
UPDATE: Minutes after Gossip Cop went to press, Rose posted on Twitter a response to a Variety story on her comments. She tweeted, "Bruh we were joking on a Podcast! Lol stop with the Clickbait! I have no information about anyone's Personal Life. FOH." Listening to the podcast, which Gossip Cop did, there is no indication she was joking. Additionally, a publicist for PodcastOne sent a press release with a transcript of Rose's remarks. The release was titled, "Amber Rose On Make Speidi Famous Again: 'I Definitely Think That Gwyneth Paltrow Is 'Becky with the Good Hair.'" Check out the audio below, beginning at the 50-minute mark.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
