As 2017 enters its final days, Gossip Cop is looking back at some of the top rumors about the biggest stars. For Gwen Stefani, one of the year’s doozies came from OK!. In July, the tabloid falsely announced she and Blake Shelton were expecting twins.

“Miracle Babies At 47,” blared the cover. In the accompanying article, the gossip magazine asserted, ““Friends are whispering that not only is a wedding around the corner, but Gwen is expecting twins!” A so-called “source” was quoted as saying, “Word is [twins] run in her family, on her dad’s side, and friends are saying she’s been talking constantly about Beyonce’s pregnancy and wanting to reach out to her for advice. People are starting to put two and two together.”

The outlet went on to allege Stefani broke the pregnancy news to Shelton on his birthday, which took place the month prior. The aforementioned snitch gushed, “Gwen and Blake really feel fate brought them together and continues to bless them with the promise of more kids. They say they have to pinch each other to make sure it’s real.” Ironically, nothing about this cover story was real.

In fact, Stefani’s rep exclusively told Gossip Cop at the time that it was “not true” she was pregnant with twins. We also learned that the publication didn’t bother fact-checking its contentions with her camp before publishing them. Now nearly six months have gone by. Still unwed, Stefani and Shelton just spent Christmas together and the festivities were documented in a number of photos. Not a one showed the songstress with the huge belly she’d have now if she were carrying twins, as claimed back in July.

It should come as no surprise that the allegation was fabricated and untrue since OK! also made-up a cover story about Stefani being pregnant with twins in July of 2016. There was roughly a year between the two editions, yet there’s transparent similarities showing how the tabloid manufactures these falsehoods. For example, both the 2016 and 2017 issues featured the cover line, “They’ve already chosen the names.” And the teaser “Miracle Babies At 46” from last year’s installment was just bumped up to “47” for this year’s.

Gossip Cop has little doubt that a third version of this twins claim will be concocted again in 2018. Whether it will once more surface in July remains to be seen, but whenever it does, Gossip Cop will investigate anew to find out the truth. Indeed, we’ll be separating fact from fiction about Stefani, Shelton and more stars all year long.
