An article alleging Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have “new tension” in their relationship was made up to cover previous lies about the couple getting married. Gossip Cop can expose this flip-flop.

Since Stefani and Shelton began dating in late 2015, Life & Style has published a number of false stories wrongly claiming they were set to wed. Last month, though, the tabloid went even further. A completely untrue cover story announced, “Gwen & Blake: They’re Married!” The article alleged the stars “secretly tied the knot” in a backyard ceremony, and were now planning a “much larger church wedding.” The supposed “breaking news,” however, was completely fabricated.

Now weeks later, the gossip magazine is backtracking. Its new piece makes no mention of Stefani and Shelton being “married,” and instead claims plans to wed have been called off. Their “romance has stalled recently,” contends the untrustworthy magazine, which quotes a so-called “insider” as saying, “Wedding talk and baby plans are on hold… Their future is very much up in the air.” Among the “problems,” claims the publication, is Shelton “wants to spend more time in Oklahoma,” while Stefani “needs to stay in California.” In addition, it’s also alleged “there’s tension brewing because Gwen hasn’t been asked back to coach the spring season of ‘The Voice.'”

All of these claims are very flawed. It was announced months ago that Kelly Clarkson will be a coach on season 14 of “The Voice” next year, making it unlikely that Stefani would be returning. She and Shelton didn’t work together on other seasons, so not being colleagues again shouldn’t be an issue. Similarly, Stefani and Shelton have had a long-distance relationship a lot of the time due to their respective careers and home bases. Having to manage his desire to be in Oklahoma and her responsibilities in California are not a new challenge. Of course, Shelton will also be in L.A. plenty for the NBC music competition show. So both supposed “problems” are actually not problems at all.

This “tension” tale was simply made up as an excuse for why Stefani and Shelton haven’t actually married despite the tabloid’s prior stories claiming they will or already have. It’s a form of damage control, an explanation for the previous allegations not panning out. But it really boils down to this: Misinformation is being covered up with more misinformation.
