Is Gwen Stefani’s Las Vegas residency also doubling as her farewell concerts? A new report claims she plans on retiring after the Sin City showcase. Gossip Cop, however, can bust the story.

“Gwen’s Ready To Retire,” announces a headline in the latest edition of Life & Style. With the first show of her “Just A Girl” residency set for later this month, the tabloid alleges the concert will mark “the beginning of the end of her musical career.” A so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, “She’s taking an honest look at her life and what’s important, and she sees the end coming very soon.” Well, it can’t come that soon since Stefani’s residency has dates scheduled through March of 2019.

Still, the suppose source maintains, “Gwen sees her Vegas residency as her last stop.” The outlet then refers to a recent interview in which Stefani said her Las Vegas stint is “perfect for where I’m at right now.” She confessed during the chat, “I’m obviously at the end of my journey of being a musician,” blaming her age and that she’s “been doing it for thirty something years.” But at no point in the lengthy discussion did Stefani say anything about the residency marking the final output of her career.

It seems the publication just cherry-picked parts of the interview, and is sensationally using those quotes to peddle this narrative about Stefani retiring. The tabloid attributes her purported decision to leave the music business to “focusing on family life,” but her kids have always been her priority. In fact, she explains in the interview that the residency allows her flexibility. Indeed, the concerts are scheduled around her sons’ schooling. The first batch of shows coincide with the summer break, then the December holiday break, followed by the March spring break.

It’s also telling that while the magazine’s “insider” contends the singer is “reassessing things as she approaches 50,” the article makes no mention of Stefani and Blake Shelton having a wedding and a baby. Only two months ago, the outlet insisted they would be tying the knot “this summer,” and even claimed that she may already be pregnant. If Stefani was retiring, one would think those major life events would be the reasons why. Yet nothing is said about marriage or having another kid in this latest story.

One of the few things the old and new articles have in common is that they’re both based on comments from an untraceable and unidentifiable “insider.” In contrast, Gossip Cop didn’t hide beyond an anonymous source to debunk the wedding-and-baby narrative, and we don’t need to now, either. A rep for Stefani exclusively tells Gossip Cop on the record that it’s “untrue” she’s planning to retire following the Vegas residency. And it can’t be understated that these questionable retirement claims are coming from a tabloid with a poor track record, as opposed to a trusted music-focused publication, such as Rolling Stone, Billboard or Entertainment Weekly.
