Blake Shelton was officially named the Sexiest Man Alive by People on Tuesday, two days after Gossip Cop exclusively broke the news that he would be the magazine's 2017 honoree. Now on Wednesday, a certain webloid is trying to sell fake news about what Gwen Stefani supposedly thinks of the honor.

"Gwen Stefani Already Considered Blake Shelton The 'Sexiest Man Alive' — But Not Because Of His Looks," reads the headline of this manufactured story from HollywoodLife, which claims it "EXCLUSIVELY learned Gwen always thought Blake was the hottest man on planet — but not just because he's a hunk!" A so-called "source" is quoted as saying, "Blake is sexy to Gwen because he is funny. Blake is sexy to Gwen because he loves her children. Blake is sexy to Gwen because he shows her love that she has never experienced before."

No real person would keep repeating "Blake is sexy to Gwen because" over and over like that. It's as if the site sat down to concoct its own list and then chose to attribute it to a "source" to give its made-up article credence. It also seems like the outlet read the People cover story, for which Stefani says that Shelton is sexiest because of his humor and his heart. So it's not like the online publication actually delivered an original scoop here. Besides, if HollywoodLies, as it's known, really had inside access to Stefani and Shelton's world, as it so often laughably claims, they would've broken the Sexiest Man Alive news. But the blog, without real sources, was in the dark until Gossip Cop, with our rock-solid insiders, told the world.

There's another indication this purported "exclusive" was made up. As the piece goes on, HollywoodLies opines, "Needless to say, it'll be interesting to see if this award will be brought up during an episode of 'The Voice.'" But if the webloid was really in-the-know, it would be aware that Shelton's title was formally announced on the show. As Gossip Cop reported, Tuesday's episode kicked off with Shelton showing Adam Levine, a former Sexiest Man winner, the new cover. Then, when host Carson Daly was doing introductions, he referred to the country superstar as the "newly-crowned Sexiest Man Alive."

HollywoodLies clearly doesn't know this, yet wants readers to believe it "exclusively" uncovered the rather obvious reasons why Stefani thinks Shelton is sexy. Not only is it apparent that the site is disingenuous, but its motivation for making up this story is transparent as well. As per usual, the outlet just wanted to capitalize on a newsy topic by offering original content that attracts search engines and fans. That's why it created this fake news. Too bad the publication got caught.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
