Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are not having a “summer wedding” and their friends and family don’t “suspect” that either, despite a complete made-up report. Gossip Cop can exclusively shoot down this fake news story. We’re told by an actual friend of the couple that it’s not true.

According to yet another piece of fiction from HollywoodLife, Shelton and Stefani’s “loved ones are convinced they’re getting married — and soon.” The site, which is nicknamed HollywoodLies, claims its information comes from “a source close to Gwen.” An unnamed “source” is then quoted as saying, “She’s been dropping hints that she and Blake have a big announcement coming… a big secret they’re getting ready to share.” The same unidentified tipster maintains, “Everyone’s convinced they’re going to have a surprise wedding this summer.”

The purported “source” contends, “Gwen’s told her family and friends to block off some dates for a big party at Blake’s place in Oklahoma this summer.” Naturally, the concocted insider doesn’t offer what any of those dates are. Still, the supposed leaker adds, “She hasn’t said it’s a wedding, but a lot of her friends are convinced that’s what’s happening.” “Gwen’s family wants this to happen ASAP,” assert the untraceable ands almost assuredly make-believe “source.”

Now that you’ve read HollywoodLies’ fiction, let’s get to the facts. Neither of the singers have said there are wedding bells in the near future. Just a couple of months ago when asked whether Shelton thinks about marrying Stefani, the country singer told CMT Radio, “I don’t think it’s anytime soon or anything.” For her part, Stefani told Ellen DeGeneres she thinks about marry Shelton, but did not say it’s on the horizon. Meanwhile, Gossip Cop checked in with Stefani’s rep, who speaks on her behalf and with whom she’s friendly, and we’re categorically told that the website’s story is “untrue.”

As for this summer, it’s actually pretty packed full for the couple. On June 27, Stefani kicks off her residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and it runs until July 21 before she resumes again in December. Meanwhile, not only does he have audition tapings for season 15 of “The Voice” this summer, but also Shelton has tours dates across the U.S. through the third week of August.

But why do you think HollywoodLies didn’t reach out to Stefani’s rep? Is it that the reporters there aren’t familiar with basic journalism, which dictates one gets comments from the subject’s side? Is it because the story was made up, and if they were to check with someone who can offer an official statement it would shoot down their fabricated claims? While Gossip Cop won’t share its thoughts about the second question we posed, we can fairly confidently say that if the blog began fact-checking its articles more rigorously, there would be far fewer phony articles on its site.

For instance, two weeks ago the often discredited outlet would not have reported that Stefani was pregnant with Shelton’s baby if it had real insight. In that manufactured story, once again the blog claimed “friends think she’s got a secret,” much like the latest article that falsely asserts Stefani’s “big secret” is that she’s having a “summer wedding.” What’s not a secret is that while Gossip Cop fact-checks and offers transparent proof, HollywoodLife repeatedly publishes fiction.

Conclusion: Despite the site claiming Shelton and Stefani are planning a secret “wedding this summer,” it offers absolutely no details about the alleged nuptials or any concrete proof the couple is getting married. Conversely, neither of them has said a wedding is imminent, and Shelton very clearly stated there’s no marriage happening “anytime soon.”

Additionally, both singers have a slew of professional commitments this summer. And while HollywoodLies’ entire tale is predicated on an unnamed and seemingly fabricated “source,” Stefani’s spokesperson went on the record to call the outlet’s story “untrue.” Plus, the blog has a track record of being 100 percent wrong when it comes to the couple, based on information it claims came from a “friend” of Stefani. For those reasons, Gossip Cop is rating the site story fiction and giving it a 0 out of 10.
