Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton never had a secret wedding, despite a report from a year ago. Gossip Cop is taking a look back at this bust from exactly 12 months ago. Though the couple is still happily together, time has shown they haven’t married.
But on July 5, 2017, Life & Style published a cover that falsely announced, “Gwen & Blake: They’re Married!” The front of the issue even touted that this was “breaking news.” Inside the edition, the tabloid asserted, “Gwen and Blake have secretly tied the knot.” The magazine wanted readers to believe they had a “super low-key” ceremony in the backyard of Stefani’s home with “just family and a few close friends” present.
It was quite telling, though, that no date was given for these purported nuptials. Even more suspiciously, deep into the article a so-called “insider” was quoted as saying, “There definitely will be a much larger church wedding later this year to make the marriage official.” Huh? The outlet went from announcing Stefani and Shelton were “married” and “secretly tied the knot” to asserting they still had to make it “official.”
On top of this sketchiness, Gossip Cop was told on background by a Stefani source that the cover story was entirely “B.S.” That became even clearer when the year ended without her and Shelton ever having a “much larger church wedding.” And the publication dug itself into an even deeper hole in January when it claimed Stefani “called off” a wedding, only to then allege in April that Stefani and Shelton were planning a “wedding and a baby.”
The narrative kept changing because it’s entirely made-up and not based in reality. Contrary to all the tales about walking down the aisle, “Entertainment Tonight” reported earlier this year that Stefani and Shelton are “not ready” to get married. Plus, this spring Shelton himself even admitted that while he thinks about marrying Stefani, he doesn’t believe it will happen “soon.”
In fact, when Shelton recently spoke with People about dating Stefani, he pointedly cracked about the bogus tabloid rumors, “We’ve been married and divorced and married again a couple of times. We were married before we ever even met each other!” They are clearly committed to one another, with Shelton even joking on Twitter earlier this week that he’s a “stalker” for attending Stefani’s first three residency concerts. But it’s just as clear that Stefani and Shelton didn’t have a secret wedding 365 days ago, despite what Life & Style tried to trick fans into thinking.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
