Throughout Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's nearly three-year relationship, the tabloids have been rushing them down the aisle. In fact, there have been so many false marriage and wedding rumors that Gossip Cop has lost count. But below, we've rounded up five examples just from 2018.

The year started out with OK! announcing in early January that Stefani and Shelton secretly married in a "backyard wedding." It was specifically alleged the ceremony took place at her L.A. estate around the holidays, and was arranged at the last minute with only "27 of the couple's nearest and dearest" in attendance. The magazine further tried to dupe readers by teasing on its cover, "His Mom Tells All." That made it seem like Shelton's mother gave all the purported details to the outlet. In actuality, the article featured an old quote from someone who claimed to be a "surrogate mom" to the country superstar. Fishy? Totally. And a rep for Stefani also confirmed to Gossip Cop that the marriage claims were completely "untrue."

In April, Life & Style declared on its cover that Stefani and Shelton were having a "wedding & a baby." Gossip Cop immediately pointed out the photo deception right on the cover. To make readers think the songstress was already expecting, the publication took a photo of the couple walking on the beach and digitally removed an alcoholic beverage from Stefani's hand. As for the wedding portion of the story, it was claimed the pair intended to marry "this summer" in front of just "22 friends." (Sound familiar?) But just a few weeks before this, "Entertainment Tonight" reported that Stefani and Shelton were "not ready to get married." Now a huge chunk of the summer has passed, and they still haven't tied the knot.

The following month, In Touch maintained Stefani and Shelton's wedding plans were "in crisis." While she was supposedly "dropping major hints" about getting married, it was claimed he wasn't "ready to get hitched, and he may never be." As proof, the magazine pointed to an interview in which Shelton when asked about marrying Stefani and replied, "I don't think it's any time soon or anything." But as Gossip Cop noted at the time, the outlet misled fans by not featuring his full remarks. Shelton actually said, "I think about it. I don't think it's any time soon or anything. The more time that goes by, I guess, the closer you'd be getting to that." Clearly, he didn't rule out getting married at all, and actually suggested it may happen down the road.

Also in May, the National Enquirer peddled a story contending, Shelton was "converting to Catholicism to marry" Stefani. "After Gwen and her parents welcomed Blake into their family, they asked him to become a Catholic as a final step to the altar," alleged the tabloid, with a source adding, "Blake didn't blink when he asked." It was further claimed he had given up drinking, too. But only days before this, Shelton had posted on Twitter a photo of himself drinking with Stefani by his side. As for the contentions about a religious conversion, though Shelton is sometimes seen attending church with Stefani, her spokesperson told Gossip Cop it was not true she and her parents asked him to convert.

In June, OK! apparently forgot it already claimed Stefani and Shelton were married because it ran a new story speculating a wedding was "weeks away." After the couple attended a friend's nuptials in Texas, the publication asserted their own "country-style wedding" was in the works. The supposed plans entailed having a "midsummer backyard wedding at Blake's sprawling Oklahoma ranch." Reminder: In the January cover story, it was alleged they married in a "backyard wedding" at Stefani's home. The blatant flip-flop underscored just how made-up the tabloid's articles were. And on top of Stefani's rep telling Gossip Cop this latest tale was "not true," it should be noted that "midsummer" has come and gone by this point without any wedding.

The gossip media has a few storylines it loves to return to over and over again. That's why Gossip Cop has also looked at wrong Stefani-Shelton split rumors, as well as wrong rumors about Shelton and Stefani having a baby. The tabloids constantly want to put the couple, and all celebrity duos, into boxes. But oftentimes, they don't really fit a mold. As Stefani and Shelton's relationship continues to progress at their own pace, Gossip Cop will keep letting fans know what's real and what's rumor.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
