Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton did not get engaged on Valentine’s Day, despite a website speculating for a second year in a row that they might. In 2018, Gossip Cop shot down the claim and we did again last week. While Shelton and Stefani remain happy together, the country singer had no plans to get down on a knee and propose with a diamond engagement ring on the romantic holiday.
Much like how Valentine’s Day lands every year on February 14, HollywoodLife consistently publishes an article in the days leading up to it about how Shelton may pop the question to Stefani. Every year the often disproven outlet, which has earned the nickname HollywoodLies, alleges it has sources “close” to the singers who it contends are furnishing the site with its information. But having been repeatedly wrong about them getting engaged, it’s clear their tipsters are not that “close” to Stefani and Shelton, and were possibly manufactured by the blog itself.
Last year, Gossip Cop busted the outlet when it falsely insisted Shelton was shopping for an engagement ring to give Stefani on Valentine’s Day. While the blog’s articles around that time were based on an anonymous and untraceable “source,” the No Doubt singer’s rep told us on the record she did not get engaged on Valentine’s Day or afterwards. Actually, in 2018 they spent the holiday separately, with Shelton in Oklahoma rehearsing for his “Country Music Freaks Tour,” while Stefani remained in Los Angeles with her three boys.
Fast forward to 2019, and once again history repeated itself. Once more HollywoodLies floated the idea of Stefani being proposed to on Valentine’s Day by Shelton. And for the second year in a row, it was untrue.
In the days leading up to this year’s holiday, Gossip Cop was told that while the two remain in love, Shelton wasn’t slipping a diamond ring on his longtime girlfriend’s left hand on Valentine’s Day. As Stefani tweeted on Thursday, and also documented on an Instagram Story, Shelton sent her a “car sized bouquet” of flowers, but there was no ring. Actually, for the second consecutive year, she celebrated Valentine’s Day with her kids in California, while Shelton was in Oklahoma performing the first concert of his “Friends And Heroes Tour.”
Gossip Cop reached out to Stefani’s rep for a comment about HollywoodLies’ made-up Valentine’s Day stories, and was assured there was no engagement this year either. The spokesperson even laughed off the idea of that blog trying the same inaccurate narrative. In the past, Stefani’s rep told us of HollywoodLife, “I pretend they don’t exist,” and there’s good reason.
After maintaining Shelton was going to propose to Stefani over this past Christmas, when he didn’t, the habitually discredited website tried to cover its tracks two months ago with a phony story about how she was “relieved” he didn’t pop the question. Curiously, to this day the outlet has never explained away its October 2017 tale in which it claimed Stefani and Shelton were already engaged. Should they get engaged down the road, the news most assuredly will not be broken by HollywoodLies, though Gossip Cop is fairly certain they’ll concoct some fake angle about it afterwards.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
