Gwen Stefani is not "ready to end her music career to settle down" with Blake Shelton, despite a claim on Saturday. This report is both late and wrong. Gossip Cop can set the record straight for the second time.
On Wednesday, OK! published its new issue with a teaser on the cover that exclaimed, "Gwen Tells All: I'm Quitting Music For Blake!" It was a fake statement, as Stefani never actually said any such thing. What's more, though, is that it was a bait-and-switch. As Gossip Cop explained in our bust, the actual article didn't really have anything to do with Shelton at all. Rather, it referenced an interview in which Stefani had said, "I'm obviously at the end of my journey being a musician."
The magazine wrongly twisted that quote and sensationalized it into a narrative about Stefani "quitting music." Of course, the outlet had no real proof to back up that contention, given that the singer never actually said that. In contrast, Gossip Cop checked in with her rep, who exclusively told us on the record that it was not true she intended to abandon her career for Shelton or any other reason.
Now days after our debunking, Celebrity Insider is peddling a post with the headline, "Gwen Stefani Is Reportedly Ready To End Her Music Career To Settle Down With Blake Shelton." Noting that the No Doubt front woman is about to start her Las Vegas residency, the site contends she "hinted that this could be the end of her musical journey," and asks, "Could she be quitting music to settle down with Blake Shelton?"
"In her latest interview, Stefani says that she would be ok if this is her last run on stage," alleges the blog. Actually, she never said that. As the interview with Social, a lifestyle magazine, shows, she was asked, "What does performing live give you, personally and energetically?" Stefani responded in part, "I always think I don't want to do it. I always think it's fine if I never do it again. Then when I get on stage, even when I'm sound checking, I'm like, 'Oh My God, I love this!'" At no point did say she'd be "okay" if this was her "last run."
Just as significant is that Shelton is only mentioned once in the in-depth chat, and it was not in the context of "settling down." Stefani was asked, "Has Blake had any creative input with this Las Vegas show?" And in response, she explained how she's "bouncing stuff off him all the time." Just as OK! did, Celebrity Insider is completely misrepresenting the interview and turning it into something entirely different. In fact, the website actually goes on to admit, "Stefani stopped short of saying she is quitting music to be with her boyfriend."
If that's the case, then the online publication had no business announcing in a headline, "Gwen Stefani Is Reportedly Ready To End Her Music Career To Settle Down With Blake Shelton." Furthermore, it makes little sense to contend she would be ending her career to "settle down" with the country superstar when he isn't doing the same. Last December, Shelton re-upped with Warner Music Nashville, and said in a statement, "I look forward to more incredible years with my Warner family." Besides, they can continue being a couple while carrying on with their respective music careers. They've done it for more than two years already, and stars like Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have done it for two decades.
Lastly, not only is it apparent that the website didn't do proper research on Stefani's interview, but it also clearly couldn't be bothered to fact-check. Had Celebrity Insider done some investigating, it would've seen that this narrative about Stefani "quitting music" had already been debunked. But given that this is the same site that flip-flopped in January on Stefani and Shelton breaking up, it's apparent truth-telling isn't a priority.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
