Gavin Polone, who produced “Gilmore Girls” during the show’s initial run from 2000-2007, is suing Warner Bros. Television for not compensating him for the upcoming Netflix revival. Polone filed a breach of contract lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, and is seeking more than $195,000 in damages.

Polone attests in his suit that when he helped develop the series in 1999, he made a deal with Warner Bros. that he would be paid for any original episodes that aired. The upcoming Netflix reboot, titled “Gilmore Girls: Seasons,” will consist of four new, 90-minute episodes, but Warner Bros. is arguing that the follow-up series doesn’t count as television because it will be streaming on Netflix as opposed to airing on a traditional broadcast network.

The studio behind the series maintains that the reboot is a “derivative work” based on the original series, but not original programming in and of itself. The original show, which centered on the relationship between a 30-something single mother and her teenage daughter, starred Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, and Melissa McCarthy in a supporting role. All three actresses will be returning for the Netflix revival, “Gilmore Girl: Seasons,” which is currently filming and will be available to stream sometime later in 2016.
