A tabloid claims George Clooney’s excessive spending habits are repulsing his wife Amal Clooney. The magazine says the actor can’t stop dropping stacks of cash on material items, and it’s driving the human rights lawyer away. Gossip Cop investigated the situation, and we’ve learned it’s a complete fabrication.

“George’s Wild Spending Sprees” reads a headline in the latest issue of Star. The accompanying article quotes a “source” as saying, “He thinks nothing of dropping tens of thousands at a time on designer suits, jewelry, antiques. It’s gotten way out of control and Amal’s grossed out by it.” The “insider” goes on to say the movie star was surprised by his wife’s reaction, as he’s “so used to his Hollywood-type girlfriends demanding nothing but luxury over the years, he assumed Amal would require the same.”

The suspicious tipster further contends that Amal thinks her husband’s spending is “out of touch with the real world” and “off-brand with her life’s work: humanitarian efforts.” It’s supposedly gotten to the point where the attorney is considering limiting her husband to an allowance to control his spending. The spouses are “at a bit of a stalemate on the issue,” adds the seemingly imaginary insider.

Gossip Cop spoke with an individual in Clooney’s camp, who called the story “garbage” and “obviously not true.” Meanwhile, Star’s report isn’t remotely logical. If George was spending all this money because it’s what he thought Amal wanted, wouldn’t he stop when she made it clear that it wasn’t? Furthermore, wouldn’t this issue have come up much earlier in their relationship? They’ve been married for nearly five years and together for nearly six.

Additionally, there’s zero indication that George wears expensive jewelry, as most photos and videos of the star are free of any bling save for his subdued wedding ring and the occasional watch. As for antiques, Amal pointed out in an April 2018 interview with Vogue that the couple’s art collection has such a low value that insurance appraisers barely thought it was worth them getting a policy for it.

This isn’t the first time Star has missed the mark regarding the Clooneys. Just last month, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for falsely claiming a surprise pregnancy had saved George and Amal’s marriage. In that article, the two were fighting over George’s so-called “partying,” with no mention of problematic spending habits. Naturally, the human rights lawyer isn’t pregnant and the couple’s marriage wasn’t in need of saving.

Shortly before that, the outlet published an article claiming George and Amal were divorcing amid her being pregnant and him running for president. In that scenario, it wasn’t partying or money driving them apart, but Amal’s sudden desire “to be a star in her own right” instead of supporting her husband’s presidential run. Not only was every aspect of the story false, it also contradicts this latest one about Amal despising the spotlight and anything that’s “off-brand with her life’s work.”
