George Clooney is not getting involved in Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's divorce, despite a completely made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the story. We've learned it's simply untrue.
According to Grazia, Clooney is attempting to play "peacemaker" and defuse tensions between the estranged spouses amid their contentious divorce and custody battle. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "George has secretly kept in close contact with Brad throughout this ordeal. In recent weeks, however, he has reached out to Angelina personally in the hope that he could talk some sense into her." The supposed source goes on to say that Clooney told the actress to "do the right thing and get her legal team to settle the divorce amicably without any further mud-slinging."
The questionable tipster adds, "George is closer to Brad, but he cares about both of them and will do anything to make things right. So far it seems to be falling on deaf ears, as Ange is still adamant about fighting this now that she has a new legal team by her side." The "source" concludes, "George is hoping that he can get Ange to see the light, and she and Brad can reach an amicable agreement that suits both of them - and the kids."
Despite what the tabloid's anonymous and untraceable "insider" says, Gossip Cop checked in with Clooney's spokesperson, who tells us on the record that the story is "not true." The actor simply hasn't gotten involved in Pitt and Jolie's split. The tabloid is just trying to rope Clooney into the situation because he's friendly with Pitt, but the actor isn't playing a role in his divorce.
It should be noted, however, that it's not clear how close the Ocean's Eleven co-stars actually are these days. In fact, Clooney hadn't heard the news of Pitt's divorce when it first occurred back in September 2016. When CNN asked the actor about the split during an interview at the United Nations, he responded, "I didn't know that. Wow." He added, "That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family... I feel very sorry to hear that." If Clooney were truly so involved in Pitt's personal life, it's unlikely he wouldn't have known about his split until informed by CNN.
Meanwhile, Grazia is hardly a reliable source when it comes to Pitt's relationships. In July, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for falsely claiming that Pitt was meeting up with Jennifer Aniston in London. Only, the actress spent the summer in Montreal and Italy filming the Netflix movie Murder Mystery. She never once visited the U.K. The magazine's articles seem to have more in common with fan fiction than journalism.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
