A tabloid claims George Clooney stormed out on wife Amal and took their twins to a safe house because her political work has put their family in danger of terrorist threats. The magazine further alleges that the spouses are headed for a $500 million divorce over the situation. Gossip Cop can debunk the false report.

Last month, George revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he’s had to amp up security measures because his wife is taking the first case against ISIS to court. The actor further admitted that he’s worried about his two kids being targeted by the terrorist organization, and is taking measures to ensure that doesn’t happen. The National Enquirer is now skewing the situation by falsely claiming the couple’s marriage is ending as a result.

A supposed source tells the outlet, “George is livid that his wife’s hard-charging efforts for human rights have left their own children at risk,” adding that the actor has taken his twins, Ella and Alexander, to their home in Sardinia where they’re under 24-hour guard. “George is having a very hard time with this, and it’s causing a major rift in the marriage,” notes the alleged insider.

The seemingly phony tipster goes on to contend George “has been keeping his head down at the villa in Sardinia” while his wife is taking on her case against ISIS, adding, “He’s living with constant anxiety… Everyone is hoping he and Amal can reach a compromise over this, but George is taking no chances whatsoever, even if Amal can’t understand his actions.” The so-called “source” asserts, “It’s been a tough few months for George and Amal. Anyone can see that, and the last thing their marriage needed right now was more stress and tension thrown into it. It will be a miracle if they survive this.”

The tabloid’s report is inaccurate on a number of levels. For starters, the unreliable outlet left out a key detail of George’s interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The actor made a point of noting that despite the security issues his family is dealing with, “We live our lives. We don’t hide in corners.” Meanwhile, the movie star has always championed his wife’s work as a human rights attorney and supported her endeavors.

There’s an even bigger issue with the magazine’s phony premise: George and Amal don’t own a home in Sardinia. Gossip Cop reached out to the actor’s spokesperson, who in addition to telling us the story is false, also explains that the spouses don’t have an estate on the Italian island. George didn’t retreat with his twins to a safe house he doesn’t own. The couple stayed in Sardinia last summer when he filmed “Catch-22,” but they don’t own a property there.

The outlet’s story is also poorly-timed. Last week, George and Amal launched a charity contest giving a fan the chance to dine with them at their Lake Como home. The actor made the announcement with a funny video in which he acknowledged that getting to have lunch with his wife is the real “selling point” of the contest.

Unfortunately, the Enquirer frequently alleges the spouses are headed for a split. Just last month, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for falsely claiming Amal dumped George on his birthday. Back in January, we called out the publication for wrongly reporting that Amal was the one who stormed out on George and took their twins with her. The magazine’s latest attempt to break up the happy couple is equally baseless.
