Amal Clooney is not competitive with husband George Clooney over who’s the bigger star, despite a ridiculous tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the claim. We’ve learned there’s no truth to it.

According to the National Enquirer, the human rights lawyer recently shocked guests at a fancy dinner party by telling everyone in the room, “I’m the bigger celebrity!” An alleged insider tells the magazine, “George and Amal were fine-dining with some close friends, when Amal — one of the most photographed and admired women in the world — suddenly announced she’d become even more famous than her A-list actor husband.” The “insider’s” bizarrely unnatural language is a red flag from the start. Still, the questionable tipster goes on to say that George “looked absolutely horrified” by his wife’s comment.

In addition to the fake-sounding quotes, another major issue with the tabloid’s article is its lack of detail. The unreliable outlet doesn’t mention when or where this supposed dinner party took place, or who else attended. Furthermore, the premise is coming from an anonymous and untraceable “source,” but Gossip Cop checked in with George’s rep, who’s qualified to speak on his behalf. The actor’s spokesperson tells us on the record that the magazine’s story is simply “made-up.”

It’s worth noting, Amal said in a 2016 “Today” show interview that she doesn’t consider herself a celebrity. When asked about A-listers using their star power to promote causes, the human rights attorney said she thinks it’s “wonderful” when celebrities use the “spotlight that they have to raise awareness,” but added, “I don’t really see myself in the same way because I’m still doing the same job that I used to do before.”

Amal further noted that any fame she has is being used “in an appropriate manner by continuing to do this kind of work.” Simply put, the humanitarian may be married to a movie star, but she doesn’t seem particularly concerned with the idea of being a celebrity. If she has any use for her star status, it’s in advancing important social causes, not boasting about it at dinner parties.

Unfortunately, Gossip Cop isn’t particularly surprised by the Enquirer’s bogus story. The tabloid has a long history of publishing nonsense about the famous couple. Earlier this year, Gossip Cop busted the magazine for falsely claiming the Clooneys called a restaurant and demanded that all the tables in their vicinity be vacated before they arrived. The story was a complete work of fiction, much like this latest one.
