A tabloid report claiming George Clooney and Amal Clooney went on a “second honeymoon” to save their marriage is entirely untrue. Gossip Cop can debunk the story. It’s simply made-up.

According to the National Enquirer, the spouses of nearly five years were on the verge of a divorce but managed to salvage their relationship with a recent getaway to Ireland. A supposed source tells the magazine, “This trip has done wonders for George and Amal. They’re super excited to be back on track again. It’s no secret they’ve had their problems recently, but getting away from the public eye and spending quality time together has done them a world of good.”

Last month, the Clooneys visited Ireland for a family reunion organized by the actor’s parents. The alleged insider says the trip also doubled as a “second honeymoon,” and the spouses “found time to bond with each other.” The suspicious tipster adds, “This was the first time in a while they could hang out and figure out compromises to their differences. It was also a super romantic setting, so that went a long way to get the spark going again physically.”

The purported source goes on to assert the couple has “done a total 180″ as a result of the Irish getaway, “going from super miserable to virtual newlyweds who can’t get enough of each other.” “I haven’t seen George looking this happy in a long time,” continues the so-called “insider.”

None of this is remotely accurate. Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who wasn’t able to speak on the record, but assures us the Clooneys were never having marriage problems. They flew to Ireland to celebrate Easter with the actor’s extended family. The trip wasn’t a “second honeymoon,” and they didn’t use the time to fix nonexistent issues.

In reality, the Enquirer is seemingly trying to backpedal after printing so many false stories about George and Amal divorcing. In January, the tabloid claimed Julia Roberts was leaving her husband for George, who was receptive because he and Amal were supposedly having marriage “problems” as well. Of course, the actress remains happily married to Danny Moder, and George is still very much with Amal.

A couple of weeks after that bogus article, Gossip Cop busted the magazine when it wrongly maintained in a cover story how Amal and their twins moved out of the house she shared with George in England amid a “divorce battle.” The outlet’s report about the human rights attorney fleeing with their kids to the island of Sardinia was predicated on an anonymous and possibly manufactured source, but George’s rep exclusively shared with Gossip Cop that the tale was “completely made up.”

Undeterred, its sister publication, Life & Style, came back three weeks later with yet another inaccurate cover story about George ending his marriage to Amal. Invariably, right after the tabloids make claims about them divorcing, the two end up being spotted out having a romantic dinner. With its latest article about the spouses reconnecting, the Enquirer is again just trying to weasel out of its past tales about them splitting up.
