Have George Clooney and Amal Clooney been living apart for months? That's what one of this week's tabloids is reporting. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.

According to Woman's Day, the spouses have barely seen each other over the past 120 days - since a trip to New York in late October. "Even then, you could tell things were tense between them," a supposed source tells the magazine. "Amal seemed very focused on her job as a guest professor at Columbia University, whereas George was on his own path, socializing with his mates and leaving the kids to the nanny when their mum was at work. Neither of them seemed happy with the other."

There are a few things to address right off the bat. For one, Woman's Day is an Australian magazine, which explains why the terms "mates" and "mum" were used in place of "friends" and "mom." However, George is American and Amal is Lebanese, and they don't have a home in Australia, nor does it seem they spend much time there. Sure, the tabloid's "insider" could be one of the couple's unidentified Australian "mates," but it seems more likely this "insider" is just one of the staff writer's at the Aussie tabloid. Additionally, George and Amal celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary while visiting New York in the fall. The idea that "things were tense" between them and that they didn't spend time together is totally baseless.

Still, the questionable tipster goes on to say the Clooneys have "gone their separate ways" in the time since. The "source" maintains that Amal is spending time at their home in England juggling both work and raising their twins, while her husband hangs out at their Lake Como villa, where there's a "revolving door" of celebrity guests looking to party. "He doesn't understand why Amal doesn't just cut back on her work and enjoy the high life with him," adds the seemingly nonexistent insider. "As they get older, the differences between them are becoming more and more obvious, and Amal's not sure she likes where it's going at all."

After alleging that George has been neglecting his wife and children, the supposed tipster adds, "He's enjoying the newfound freedom Amal is allowing him by letting him stay in Como while she's in the UK. In fact, he's thinking of suggesting they make living apart for some of the year a permanent arrangement. If he does voice that idea, Amal will flip. She'll end it for good. She's not far from that already."

Here's what the tabloid doesn't realize or purposely omits: George has been shooting his upcoming movie The Midnight Sky in the UK since last October. The actor's own spokesperson recently told us that he and Amal "are both together in London and have been" since filming started. The Midnight Sky just wrapped shooting earlier this week. George hasn't been partying at Lake Como while his wife is stuck looking after their children. They've all been together as a family during the production of George's upcoming film. The tabloid's report is baseless and poorly researched.

Gossip Cop called out Woman's Day in May 2019 for falsely claiming George and Amal were on the "brink of divorce." The claim wasn't true nine months ago and it's no more accurate now. Despite the tabloid's efforts to tear the spouses apart, they're very much together and going strong.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
