As Kesha and Dr. Luke’s dueling lawsuits continue to drag on, fans are supporting the singer with the “#FreedomForKesha” hashtag, which began trending in the United States and worldwide on Tuesday.

As Gossip Cop reported, Kesha filed a bombshell lawsuit against Dr. Luke nearly a year ago, alleging her longtime producer not only abused her verbally and physically, but also sexually assault her. Dr. Luke filed a countersuit, claiming the allegations were false, and that Kesha and mother Pebe Sebert were extorting him in an attempt to break their contract. This past June, a judge ruled that Dr. Luke’s New York-filed suit should proceed before Kesha’s California-based one.

On Friday, Kesha’s camp asked for a preliminary injunction, urging the New York case to be expedited and that she not be penalized for signing with another label, all on the grounds that her career is being significantly damaged in the meantime. Her lawyers’ stated in a legal filing that with the way things currently stand:

“Until this Court rules on the declaratory judgment claim, Kesha is at an impasse. She cannot work with music producers, publishers, or record labels to release new music. With no new music to perform, Kesha cannot tour. Off the radio and stage and out of the spotlight, Kesha cannot sell merchandise, receive sponsorships, or get media attention. Her brand value has fallen, and unless the Court issues this injunction, Kesha will suffer irreparable harm, plummeting her career past the point of no return.”

Kesha also submitted a new declaration repeating her allegations, and saying she “physically cannot” work with Dr. Luke, and doesn’t “feel safe” around him. In response, Dr. Luke’s team released a statement saying:

“We are confident this motion will be denied because it is without merit. Kesha continues to make the same false claims of abuse against Dr. Luke she testified never happened under penalty of perjury. As with all pleadings in this case, her affidavit is vague and unsubstantiated, with pivotal details such as dates fudged, and notably fails to address her unequivocal prior sworn testimony to the contrary.

If Kesha now regrets her career being mired in legal proceedings, it’s entirely her making. It was Kesha who chose to file a lawsuit falsely alleging abuse to gain advantage in contract negotiations, and now she must accept the consequences of her improper actions. As long as she continues to stand by her false claims of abuse against Dr. Luke and remains in breach of her contracts, he will continue to protect his professional and personal reputation, as well as his contractual rights, in a court of law. He looks forward to obtaining judgments in his favor.”

Now Kesha’s fans are rallying around the singer, tweeting not just their support of her plight, but also stressing some of the allegations she’s made. “Whether you like kesha or her music, undergoing 10 yrs of rape & having her right to make music taken away is not okay,” tweeted one person. It’s important to note, though, that Dr. Luke has not been charged with any crimes, much less convicted.

Others fans are tweeting messages like, “It doesn’t matter if you don’t like her, her music etc, no one deserves to be abused and trapped like this,” and “She deserves to make the music that she wants to.” Some are arguing that Kesha is being penalized for coming forward with her claims, and that she’s now a subject of victim shaming.
