The Foo Fighters performed “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” on this week’s “SNL.” The song is off their new album Concrete And Gold. See the video below of the Foo Fighters’ performance of “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” on “Saturday Night Live.”

This marks the 12th time the band’s frontman Dave Grohl has performed on “Saturday Night Live.” He made his first appearance in January 1992 when he was the drummer for Nirvana. At the time, the band performed “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Territorial Pissings.” He and Nirvana returned in September 1993. The drummer also played backup in November 1994 when Tom Petty was the musical guest on “SNL.”

Then, Grohl and the Foo Fighters made their own “SNL” debut in December 1995. At the time, they performed, “I’ll Stick Around” and “For All The Cows.” The band hit the famed stage at Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center again in November 1999. The appearance featured the group singing “Learn To Fly” and “Stacked Actors.” The Foo Fighters’ third stint as the musical guests on “Saturday Night Live” came in 2003, and they sang “All My Life” and “Times Like These.”

The band was back again on the sketch comedy series in 2005, during which time they blew the roof off the studio with the songs “DOA” and “Best Of You.” The Foo Fighters, as a band, became members of the “SNL” Five-Timers Club in October 2007. That time they performed “The Pretender.” And in April 2011, they rocked out again on “Saturday Night Live” to “Rope” and “Walk.”

Before that last performance, however, Grohl was front and center again at “SNL” with his supergroup Them Crooked Vultures when he and bandmates John Paul Jones and Josh Homme performed in February 2010. And while they were not the main acts in 2012, the Foo Fighters played with musical guest Mick Jagger, as did Beck and Arcade Fire.

Now, they’re back again after five years. The video for “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” features the band members playing the song at night on the roof of a house in which David Grohl’s real-life daughters are reading a book with the song’s lyrics in it, as well as playing with toys. At times, the group’s hard rocking on the roof in the starry night causes the girls to look up and wonder about the origin of the noise. The video for “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” was released in August and, to date, has been viewed on YouTube more than 18 million times. The song hit number one and 11 on Billboard’s Rock Airplay and Hot Rock Songs charts, respectively.
