Felicity Huffman’s role in the college admissions cheating scandal has resulted in a lot of false tabloid stories. Gossip Cop has had to debunk many bogus reports about the situation. Here are five wrong rumors.

As widely reported, Huffman has pleaded guilty to the fraud charges against her and admitted to paying $15,000 to have daughter’s SAT scores boosted. Earlier this month, Gossip Cop busted OK! for wrongly reporting that Huffman’s husband, William H. Macy, was putting his acting career on hold to ensure their marriage didn’t fall apart amid the controversy. Not only was the claim of marital strife untrue, but the idea that the actor was taking a hiatus was provably false. In reality, Macy’s Showtime series “Shameless” has been renewed for a 10th season, and shooting is expecting to begin sometime this summer.

Last month, Gossip Cop called out the National Enquirer for falsely claiming Macy was divorcing Huffman following her guilty plea in the cheating scandal. A supposed source told the outlet that if the actress were to get prison time, her husband “won’t be there for her when she gets out.” The actor’s own rep, however, told us on the record that he was supporting his wife amid her legal troubles. Meanwhile, People magazine noted that the spouses of more than 20 years “remain united” following her guilty plea.

Also last month, Gossip Cop debunked a Star story claiming Huffman was getting multimillion-dollar offers to sit down for a TV tell-all interview about her involvement in the scandal. The actress’s spokesperson, who’s qualified to speak on her behalf, told us there was no truth to the story. The report didn’t make much sense either. Huffman is still awaiting a federal judge’s decision on sentencing, which could include prison time. The idea that TV networks are contacting the actress with interview offers is very premature. Should that happen, it won’t be until well down the road.

Gossip Cop also corrected an Enquirer report alleging Huffman’s “Desperate Housewives” co-stars were furious over her involvement in the cheating scandal. According to the magazine, the actress’s former castmates, specifically Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross, were angry about losing millions of dollars in residuals because reruns of the show would be taken off the air. Only, “Desperate Housewives” isn’t in syndication, so the premise was completely baseless. A source close to Longoria assured us she was still friend with Huffman, while Cross’s rep called the story flat-out “dumb.” The cast wasn’t worried about losing millions of dollars that weren’t on the table.

And shortly after news of the scandal broke in March, Gossip Cop busted Life & Style for falsely claiming Huffman and Macy were headed for a divorce over the situation. A so-called “insider” even alleged that the actress caught her husband using a dating app behind her back. A joint rep for the couple assured us the article was fabricated and they weren’t headed for a split. Around the same time the story emerged, the spouse were photographed holding hands while arriving at a Los Angeles courthouse.
