Father John Misty Saturday Night Live

Father John Misty sang “Pure Comedy” on this week’s “SNL.” The song is off his upcoming album of the same name, which is set for release on April 7. For his first time on stage, Father John Misty sang “Total Entertainment Forever” on “SNL.” See the video below of Father John Misty’s performance of “Pure Comedy” on “Saturday Night Live.”

As Gossip Cop previously noted, this marks Father John Misty’s debut as the musical guest on “SNL.” Like “Total Entertainment Forever,” this is also the first time he’s performed “Pure Comedy” on TV. Father John Misty was born Joshua Tillman, and for a number of years wrote, produced and performed music under that name before releasing his first album Fear Fun in 2012 with his new moniker.

The music video for “Pure Comedy,” which questions religion, politics and much more, features unflattering footage of Donald Trump as Father John Misty sings, “Where did they find these goons they elected to rule them?” Still over images of Trump, he continues, “What makes these clowns they idolize so remarkable?”

In addition to performing music as both Father John Misty and Tillman, he has also written songs for a number of other artists. He collaborated on Beyonce’s “Hold Up,” featured on her Lemonade album. And he penned “Sinner’s Prayer” and “Come To Mama” for Lady Gaga’s album Joanne, on which Father John Misty also plays the drums.
