Eric Benet did not go to Jay Z's home to confront him over lyrics on the rapper's new album, despite reports. Gossip Cop can exclusively set the record straight. We've learned the claims are entirely false.
Many lyrics on Jay Z's new album have made waves since the record dropped on Tidal at midnight on Friday, including the lines, "You almost went Eric Benet/Let the baddest girl in the world get away/I don't even know what else to say, never go Eric Benet." The lyrics were an apparent reference to Benet cheating on ex-wife Halle Berry, leading to their divorce. Alluding to his second wife, Manuela Testolini, Benet wrote in response on Twitter, "Hey yo #Jayz! Just so ya know, I got the baddest girl in the world as my wife... like right now!"
Now MediaTakeOut is claiming the "the Eric Benet and Jay Z situation" has spilled offline. The webloid is blaring in a headline, "Soul Singer Eric Benet Just 'PULLED UP' On Jay Z's Malibu Mansion... Demanding That Jigga... 'GIVE HIM A FAIR ONE'!!!" The site claims it has "EXCLUSIVELY learned" that after the rapper "fired SHOTS at Eric," "Eric actually PULLED UP on Jigga - asking for THAT FADE."
Basing this "CRAZY news" on its so-called "TOP Jay Z insider," the outlet claims, "Eric drove over to Jay Z's Malibu mansion last night - and asked security to tell Jay to come outside and FIGHT." And the purported "insider" is quoted as saying, "Jay was inside enjoying his family. He doesn't have time for any of [Eric's] nonsense." Nevertheless, MTO declares, "WOOOW. We have NEW RESPECT for Eric Benet now."
Well, Gossip Cop's lack of respect for MediaFakeOut has only grown, because the bad blog is once again peddling a completely untrue story. Jay Z's album was released on Friday, and this article contends Benet went to the rapper's Malibu home on Saturday night to confront him. Gossip Cop, however, has learned that's impossible because the singer wasn't even in the country on Saturday. Benet's currently in Cuba and has been since Friday.
He never went to Jay Z's house and doesn't intend to. A rep for Benet even tells Gossip Cop the claims are "hilariously untrue." Unsurprisingly, though, the lemmings at HollywoodLife quickly picked up the false allegations. As Gossip Cop previously reported, HollywoodLies also ran fake news on this subject a few days ago, when it made up Berry's supposed reaction to Jay Z's song. Perhaps HollywoodLife and MediaTakeOut should leave the reporting to the professionals.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
