Is Emma Stone dating British actor Richard Madden? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop can debunk the romance rumors.
A headline in the latest issue of Heat reads, "Hot New Couple Alert." The accompanying article says the actress hit it off with the "Bodyguard" star at the Golden Globes earlier this month and they've been together since. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "They had immediate chemistry. Richard and Emma have spent a lot of time together in LA. They know that long distance can be a disaster, but Emma's hoping to film in London soon. They're really into each other and it's all Emma can talk about."
To back up its premise, the magazine notes that Madden recently split with girlfriend Ellie Bamber. The unreliable outlet, however, doesn't seem to realize that Stone has been dating "Saturday Night Live" writer Dave McCary for nearly two years. The actress and the "SNL" writer first met in December 2016 when she hosted the sketch show. They were spotted together for the first time in July 2017 at the premiere of the movie Brigsby Bear, which he directed. News of their romance went public that October.
Although the private couple is rarely spotted out together in public, they were seen at a Los Angeles Clippers game this past weekend. The magazine mistakenly believes Stone is single, and now it's been caught arbitrarily trying to link two celebrities who both attended the same awards show. Despite the magazine's premise being provably untrue, Gossip Cop still checked in with sources close to the situation, and we're assured that Stone and Madden didn't strike up a romance at the Golden Globes.
Unfortunately, we're not surprised by the tabloid's phony story. Gossip Cop busted Heat last June for falsely claiming Stone was fighting with Sienna Miller over Justin Theroux. Stone had already been dating McCary for several months at the time the story was published, while Miller was never romantically involved with Theroux either.
The tabloids have a habit of making up bogus rumors about the actress's love life. Last year, Gossip Cop shot down a story about Stone wanting to date "Maniac" co-star Jonah Hill. Like the wrong report cited above, the actress was with McCary at the time the article was published. The downside to a star keeping their personal life private is that it gives the gossip media free rein to make up stories about them. Stone's rare public outing with her boyfriend over the weekend completely disproves the claim she's dating Madden.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
