Did Emma Stone and her boyfriend Dave McCary get engaged? That's the claim in one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop has learned the truth.
A supposed source tells OK!, "Apparently Dave quietly proposed over the holidays. It was just the two of them, and of course Emma said yes." The magazine's "insider" provides no further details about the alleged proposal, such as where it even occurred.
The highly suspect source further contends the former "Saturday Night Live" writer got his girlfriend a "simple ring, but she isn't wearing it in public yet," adding, "Emma's just basking in the moment and isn't ready to announce it to the world." This tidbit, however, is just a convenient way for the tabloid to explain why Stone has never been spotted wearing an engagement ring.
As for the so-called "nuptials," the seemingly phony source adds, "They're planning something that's intimate and elegant. Emma wants all their friends and family there." Jennifer Lawrence and Brie Larson are among the celebrities said to be attending the wedding, which "will likely happen by the end of the year," according to the questionable tipster. From there, the "insider" says Stone wants Lawrence to plan her bachelorette party, and notes, "Emma wants something fun, but is also down to get a little crazy."
Gossip Cop, however, checked in with a source close to Stone, who tells us on the condition of anonymity that there's "no truth" to the magazine's story. We're assured the actress and her boyfriend aren't engaged. It's worth pointing out how Stone and McCary have been quietly dating for around 18 months, but they weren't photographed in public together in 2018, and the tabloid didn't write about their romance during that time.
A few weeks ago, Stone and McCary were spotted on a rare public outing at a Los Angeles Clippers game. The timing of the magazine's story is quite suspicious. The outlet went from never writing about the couple to claiming they're engaged just weeks after they were spotted in public for the first time in over a year.
Less than a year ago, in fact, OK! didn't seem to be aware that the couple was still together. Gossip Cop busted the magazine last February for making up a story about Stone wanting to date "Maniac" co-star Jonah Hill. At the time that phony article was published, we even noted the actress was still with McCary. Last June, the tabloid's sister publication, Life & Style, falsely claimed Stone was moving in with Justin Theroux after months of secretly dating the actor. That report, as time has proven, was complete fiction. At least this latest article involves the actress's real-life boyfriend, but it's still not accurate.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
