Emma Stone did not say that Americans need to “stand behind” Donald Trump because he’s the first president in history who “can change this country for the better,” despite a phony report. The article comes from a fake news website that often claims a particular celebrity is a stanch supporter of the divisive leader. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.

According to the unreliable blog Worldwide Politics, the actress recently shared her political opinions and thoughts on Trump’s job as president. The site quotes her as saying, “I admit that at first I wanted Hillary to win, but with time I understood that America made a great choice with Donald Trump.”

The outlet further contends that Stone stated, “I understand that people don’t like him I really do. At first I didn’t either, but he became our president so what we need to do is stand behind him in times like this.” The actress allegedly added, “I feel that Donald Trump is doing everything he can to improve our nation, you might just want to respect him and stay patient.”

The untrustworthy blog purports that Stone ended her supposed pro-Trump diatribe by asserting, “Let’s give him a chance. So far he’s doing ok and I really believe that for the first time in history we have a president that can change this country for the better.” Tellingly, the outlet fails to mention where or when the actress made these statements, which can’t be found in any interview she’s ever given.

In fact, after Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 presidential election, Stone said the results were “incredibly painful.” Regardless of the actress clearly not being a Trump supporter, all of the quotes attributed to her by the site were fabricated. Gossip Cop recently busted Worldwide Politics for falsely claiming that Kevin Bacon said America is “blessed to have Donald Trump as our president.” The actor never made such a remark, and Stone hasn’t shared any similar sentiments.

It’s also worth noting, the disreputable blog photoshopped an image of Stone to make it appear as if she wore a “Make America Great Again” hat. The picture was doctored, as you can see in the side-by-side comparison below. It’s unclear where the original image was first published, but it was captured at Disneyland in April 2015, and re-edited by the fake news site.
