Emily Luther impressed three of the coaches with her jazz voice on “Summertime” during “The Voice” on Tuesday. Check out the video below!

The 24-year-old from Rhode Island called herself a “music nerd” who attended the Berklee College of Music. She sang backup for Dionne Warwick and Yolanda Adams before scoring a record deal of her own. But when the powers that be were more focused on changing her appearance than showcasing her voice, things fell apart. Luther went back home, and now works the wedding circuit, in addition to singing at bar mitzvahs and corporate events. “I’ve been through the highs and the lows. Now I feel ready for it, the next step,” she said.

Fortunately, most of the NBC competition’s superstars agreed. In fact, just two lyrics in, Blake Shelton could be heard saying, “That’s good.” He was ultimately the first to push his button, while Adam Levine waited until Luther was nearly done. Jennifer Hudson then turned around, too, at the very last second. The contestant then quipped, “I think we need to call a medic because I’m about to pass out.” Miley Cyrus assured her, “Don’t pass out. This moment is too good.”

Levine admitted afterward, “I was literally so mesmerized by what you were doing I actually almost forgot to push my button.” Hudson also marveled over making the cut, and noted Luther’s unique tone. “I would love that on my team because there isn’t a voice there that is that flexible,” she said. Shelton pointed out, “Nobody has anyone like you on their team because there’s nobody like you in this competition at all.” Agreed Levine, “You are very, very needed in this show.”

Shelton countered, “Well, you’re in the show. You are very badly needed on my team.” Unfortunately for him, and for Hudson as well, Luther chose Levine to be her coach. Watch the video below!
