Is Portia de Rossi worried about how much money Ellen DeGeneres is spending? That's what one of the tabloids is reporting. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can set the record straight.
"Ellen On Scary Spending Spree!" reads a headline in the latest issue of the National Enquirer. The accompanying article says the talk show host has been "blowing through her dough like crazy." A supposed source tell the outlet, "She's buying fancy new sports cars, crazy expensive bling, furniture, high-end art and a ton of high-priced gadgets for her various homes."
The alleged insider says de Rossi is disturbed by her wife's spending habits, and was "ready to walk" after DeGeneres purchased a $27.5 million home in February "without telling her." The suspicious tipster adds, "People involved in making the deal were gagged with nondisclosure agreements, which may have been to stop them from spilling the details to Portia."
Gossip Cop will pause her to point out why that section of the article is particularly absurd. DeGeneres and de Rossi have been flipping houses together for the majority of their relationship. The spouses have bought and sold upwards of 20 properties over the past decade and a half. Both women have explained that the reason they've flipped so many homes is that they enjoy moving around a lot, but also realized they could make a profit in the process. Simply put, DeGeneres didn't purchase a home behind her wife's back.
Meanwhile, DeGeneres opened up last year about her attitude when it comes to spending money. The TV personality explained on her show that she grew up very poor, and made a decision not to be cheap after finding success. "I am always going to just get what I want," said DeGeneres. "Because I know there is an abundance and I will always have enough. That's how I live my life. You shouldn't live your life in fear of money."
It's safe to say that after 11 years of marriage, de Rossi understands her wife's stance on spending money. DeGeneres isn't suddenly splurging on expensive items, nor is de Rossi concerned about a non-issue. Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who tells us the magazine's story is fabricated.
Gossip Cop busted the Enquirer last month for falsely claiming DeGeneres and de Rossi were splitting because the TV host kissed Jennifer Aniston on her show. In March, the unreliable outlet insisted DeGeneres and de Rossi's marriage was "crumbling." Neither of those scenarios were remotely factual. This latest article consists of more nonexistent drama.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
