Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's marriage is often the subject of false tabloid stories. Gossip Cop has debunked many phony reports about the spouses. Here are five wrong rumors.
In October, Gossip Cop busted Life & Style for falsely claiming that the talk show host and her wife were living apart to save their marriage. The magazine alleged that de Rossi was sick of DeGeneres' controlling ways and "insane jealously," so she decided they should live under separate roofs to avoid a divorce. Around the same time the baseless story was published, DeGeneres celebrated National Coming Out Day by posting an Instagram photo of herself kissing de Rossi during a taping of her talk show. The spouses also posted loving tributes to each other in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary in August. They never lived apart.
In July, Gossip Cop called out the Globe for wrongly reporting that DeGeneres was divorcing her wife over the actress's refusal to adopt a baby with her. Not only did a source close to the couple assure us the story was nonsense, but DeGeneres said in a 2015 interview on the "Today" show that she doesn't want children. The talk show host noted that she loves kids, but "that's not enough to have kids." She added, "It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with. And I just don't know if I can."
Also in July, Gossip Cop debunked a National Enquirer report claiming DeGeneres was upset about de Rossi ignoring her at a party and chatting with Ellen Pompeo instead. In addition to a source dismissing the outlet's story, DeGeneres shared an Instagram video from the party in question, and it's clear she had a great time with her wife at the event. Meanwhile, the idea that the talk show host is jealous of the "Grey's Anatomy" star simply isn't true. In fact, Pompeo helped raise money for DeGeneres' Wildlife Fund earlier this year.
Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer in June for publishing a phony cover story claiming DeGeneres had dumped her wife. The tabloid alleged that the spouses had "a fight to end all fights" that resulted in the talk show host moving out of their house. The unreliable outlet didn't bother to provide any real details about what the couple had supposedly been fighting about. Regardless, the provably untrue article was poorly timed. That same week, DeGeneres and de Rossi took a trip to Africa together, and both documented their fun vacation on social media.
And finally, Gossip Cop called out New Idea in May for making up a story about de Rossi warning Jennifer Aniston to stay away from DeGeneres. The tabloid said de Rossi confronted the actress while they were all out to dinner and "accused her of being a bad influence on Ellen." Here's what the magazine didn't mention. DeGeneres and Aniston went to dinner with de Rossi to celebrate the launch of her new art company. The meal took place following an event for the de Rossi's new venture, which Aniston attended to support. There was no confrontation, as DeGeneres and de Rossi are both close friends with the actress.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
