One of this week's tabloids claims Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are living apart to save their marriage. The premise is completely false. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
The spouses bought a $15 million home in Beverly Hills last month, but according to Life & Style, the property "isn't just another investment, nor is it their new marital home." An alleged insider tells the magazine that the couple is using the house as "an escape pad for Portia," who will stay there two nights a week in a bid to give each other space and strengthen their marriage.
The questionable source continues, "They've told pals they won't be using this as their permanent base right now. It will be a place Portia can go on her nights off, as well as a place they can meet for monthly date nights as they try out having a more separated marriage." As for what led to their supposed new living arrangement, the tipster says, "Ellen's very controlling and Portia has put up with it for far too long. Ellen's insane jealousy has always been the root of their nastiest fights, and their last few arguments have only been getting worse."
The so-called "insider" further contends that DeGeneres frequently accuses her wife of getting too close to other women, and it's gotten to the point where de Rossi "can't stand living under the same roof" as the TV personality. "They're barely speaking behind closed doors," adds the seemingly phony source. "Portia insists the only way their marriage is going to go the distance is to get some much needed space before she explodes." The "insider" concludes, "Pals are worried this could be the beginning of the end, and that it may only be a matter of time before she files for divorce."
There's zero truth to any of this. Just last week, DeGeneres celebrated National Coming Out Day by posting an Instagram photo of herself kissing de Rossi during a taping of her talk show. The TV host added the caption, "It's the greatest gift you could give yourself." In August, DeGeneres posted a loving tribute to her wife on Instagram in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary, and de Rossi shared one as well. Also in honor of the milestone, "Entertainment Tonight" published a piece dedicated to DeGeneres and de Rossi's "unbreakable relationship." Meanwhile, de Rossi spoke to Us Weekly in June about the tabloids constantly spreading divorce rumors, saying, "We avoid it. We don't care."
Regardless of it being very clear that the couple's marriage is going strong, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to DeGeneres, who confirms they're not living apart. DeGeneres is an avid real estate investor who's been known to buy and flip many houses. The couple's new property isn't being used as a place where de Rossi can escape.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
