If one were to believe the tabloids, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are always getting a divorce. In reality, the spouses are going strong, but Gossip Cop has debunked countless stories about the pair splitting. Here are five wrong rumors.
Last month, Gossip Cop busted In Touch for falsely claiming DeGeneres and de Rossi were having a marriage crisis because the talk show host refused to leave her show. The magazine alleged that de Rossi wanted her wife to quit and spend more time with her, but DeGeneres wouldn’t and they were “on the verge of a breakup” as a result. Shortly before the phony story was published, however, de Rossi appeared on her wife’s talk show. If they were truly fighting over DeGeneres staying on the show, it’s unlikely that de Rossi would be making guest spots on it. The premise was baseless.
Gossip Cop called out RadarOnline in March for wrongly reporting that DeGeneres and de Rossi’s marriage was “crumbling.” The blog contended that the two were having major issues at home, but the site failed to elaborate on what those issues entailed. A supposed source also told the outlet that the talk show host refused to discuss her wife while she was at work. Only, de Rossi appeared on her wife’s daytime show less than a month before the story was published. And less than two weeks before the article emerged, de Rossi traveled with DeGeneres to Canada, where the talk show host performed two special shows in Toronto and Montreal.
Back in January, Gossip Cop busted Star for falsely alleging de Rossi was divorcing DeGeneres for defending Kevin Hart after the comic received backlash over his past homophobic tweets. The tabloid claimed de Rossi was “disgusted” by the way her wife stood up for the comic on her show and was “drawing up the divorce papers” as a result. As opposed to filing for divorce, de Rossi herself appeared on the talk show the following month.
Last July, Gossip Cop called out the Globe for falsely claiming DeGeneres was divorcing de Rossi over the actress’s refusal to adopt a baby with her. Not only did a source close to the couple assure us the story was untrue, but DeGeneres has said in past interviews that she doesn’t want children. In a 2015 interview on the “Today” show, the talk show host noted that she loves kids, but “that’s not enough to have kids.” She added, “It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with. And I just don’t know if I can.”
And finally, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer last June for publishing a phony cover story about DeGeneres dumping de Rossi. The outlet alleged that the spouses had “a fight to end all fights” that resulted in the talk show host moving out of their house. The unreliable tabloid didn’t provide any real details about what the couple had supposedly been fighting about. Regardless, the bogus article was poorly timed. That same week, the happy spouses took a trip to Africa together and both documented the vacation on social media.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
