Earlier this month, Ellen DeGeneres defended Kevin Hart on her talk show after the comedian stepped down from hosting the Oscars over backlash from his past homophobic tweets. One of this week's tabloids claims Portia de Rossi is furious with her wife for supporting Hart and plans to file for divorce over the situation. Gossip Cop can debunk the made-up story.

During an interview with Hart earlier this month, DeGeneres urged the public to forgive the comedian for making anti-gay jokes years prior. The talk show host further revealed that she called the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to have him reinstated as host of the 2019 Oscars. DeGeneres faced criticism from many people in the LGBT community for supporting the comic, and according to Star, de Rossi is the most disturbed of all.

A supposed source tells the magazine, "Portia is disgusted by the way Ellen defended Kevin on her show... Ellen sat there on TV and listened to him moan and groan and encouraged him to rethink hosting the Academy Awards, saying she'd vouch for him. When Ellen actually called the Academy on Kevin's behalf, Portia raised hell - and said they were through." The magazine's alleged insider further contends that de Rossi "has been frustrated in this marriage for a long time," but the situation involving Hart was the final straw that resulted in her "drawing up the divorce papers."

The tabloid's story is completely false. Just one day after DeGeneres' interview with Hart aired, de Rossi shared an Instagram photo of her and the talk show host holding hands while horseback riding. It's clear the spouses are still very much together. Additionally, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the couple, who wasn't able to speak on the record, but assures us the magazine's article is simply untrue.

Meanwhile, Star has already proven to have zero insight into the happy couple's marriage. Gossip Cop busted the outlet in November 2017 for wrongly reporting DeGeneres and de Rossi were getting a "$400 million divorce." That obviously never happened. In 2016, the unreliable magazine falsely claimed de Rossi had "dumped" her wife for a man. That story was similarly bogus.

The tabloids have used a variety of angles to try and break up DeGeneres and de Rossi's happy marriage. Star is now exploiting the controversy surrounding Hart to create more marital drama. There's simply no truth to the publication's account of events.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
