A new report claiming Ellen DeGeneres is getting a divorce after Portia de Rossi rejected her request to adopt a baby is completely untrue. Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus story. The spouses have both repeatedly stated they're on the same page when it comes to not wanting children.
"Baby Drama Sinking Ellen's Marriage!" reads a headline in the latest issue of Globe. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "Their relationship has weathered a few storms, but Ellen always felt adopting a child would put all the broken pieces together. After a lot of convincing, Ellen finally got Portia on board. They were looking into adoption agencies."
The supposed source goes on to say that de Rossi had a change of heart because she started to feel like DeGeneres "was neglecting her," so the actress "refused to proceed with the adoption plan." The questionable tipster adds, "Portia has long had issues with Ellen's endless work hours and girl crushes... Their fights are legendary."
The seemingly nonexistent insider further contends that the couple's friends "are urging them to get counseling," but they've tried it before to no avail. "Ellen's spending more time at the studio and Portia's wallowing in her grief among her own friends," adds the suspicious source. "It will take a miracle to get them through this."
The tabloid's premise simply isn't accurate. The couple has been adamant for years about not wanting children. DeGeneres said in a 2015 interview on the "Today" show that while she likes the idea of having kids, "that's not enough to have kids." The talk show host added, "It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with. And I just don't know if I can."
In a 2016 interview with the Daily Telegraph, DeGeneres admitted that she and de Rossi talked about having kids early on in their relationship, "but we just decided we like our conversations not being interrupted and our furniture without sticky grape juice on it." She added, "Also, I think in this profession it can be really tough for children. It's hard for them to have to share their parents with the world."
As for the claim that the spouses are on the verge of a split, DeGeneres and de Rossi were spotted on a date night in Los Angeles less than a week ago. The two were photographed smiling while leaving the West Hollywood restaurant where they dined. Meanwhile, de Rossi said in an Us Weekly interview last month that she and her wife ignore the divorce rumors about them. "We avoid it. We don't care," said the actress. Although it's clear the spouses are happy together and agree when it comes to not wanting kids, Gossip Cop also checked in with a mutual pal of ours and the couple, who laughed off the tabloid's divorce claims.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
