The tabloids have come up with many false stories about Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi having a baby together. Gossip Cop has debunked several inaccurate takes on the subject. Here are five wrong rumors.
In March, Gossip Cop busted OK! for wrongly reporting that DeGeneres and de Rossi were having a baby thought IVF. The outlet contended that de Rossi would be the one going through the pregnancy process with the help of a mystery male donor, who was said to be a "famous comedian." A supposed source said the talk show host and her wife were already discussing baby names and would name the child after Jennifer Aniston if they had a girl, and after Orlando Bloom if they had a boy.
Not only did a source close to DeGeneres assures us the story was untrue, but the TV personality has said several times over the years that she doesn't want children. In a 2016 interview with the Daily Telegraph, the talk show host noted that she and her wife discussed having children early on in their marriage, "but we just decided we like our conversations not being interrupted and our furniture without sticky grape juice on it."
In January, Gossip Cop called out Life & Style for falsely claiming DeGeneres was quitting her talk show to have kids with de Rossi. A mutual pal of ours and the talk show host, however, was fairly confident she'd be renewing her contract when it expires in 2020. Regardless of what the future of her show looks like, our source was even more certain that DeGeneres isn't starting a family. Around the same time the bogus story was published, the TV host opened up about tabloid rumors in a New York Times profile, saying, "I hear Portia and I are divorcing every other week or having a baby or whatever."
Last July, Gossip Cop debunked a Globe story alleging DeGeneres was divorcing de Rossi because the actress rejected her supposed plea to adopt a baby. As noted above, the talk show host has been adamant for years about not wanting children. She even said on the "Today" show in 2015 that while she likes the idea of having kids, "that's not enough to have kids." DeGeneres added, "It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with. And I just don't know if I can." Of course, the happy spouses are still going strong and remain on the same page when it comes to not having a baby.
And finally, Gossip Cop busted In Touch in 2017 for wrongly reporting that DeGeneres and de Rossi were starting a family. The publication maintained that the spouses were using a surrogate to welcome their baby and were getting advice from famous friends who went the surrogacy route, including Elton John and Neil Patrick Harris. The magazine further contended that the couple was inspired to become parents after watching Justin Timberlake's journey into fatherhood. As was the case with all of the stories mentioned above, the phony premise never panned out.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
