Is Ellen DeGeneres really grooming Kristen Bell to take over her talk show when she retires? That’s the claim in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can set the record straight.
“Ellen To Kristen: You’re Hired!” reads a headline in the latest issue of OK! The accompanying article says the talk show host wants the actress to replace her when she eventually decides to step down. A supposed source tells the magazine, “Everybody knows that Ellen doesn’t want to do this forever… The thinking is that she’s going to renew for two or three more years, and in the meantime, Kristen will be groomed for a big takeover.”
The alleged insider goes on to say that DeGeneres has offered to take Bell under her wing so she can learn the ropes. “Ellen thinks she’s adorable and would not only make a great interviewer, but also connect with her demographic,” adds the questionable tipster. “She’s convinced that Kristen is the perfect person to take her place.”
This bogus story seems to have been concocted simply because Bell guest hosted an episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres” show last year. Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who wasn’t able to speak on the record, but assures us the story is made-up. We’re told DeGeneres simply hasn’t been priming Bell to take over her show.
It’s worth noting, this isn’t the first time a tabloid has pretended to have a scoop about the future of the comedian’s talk show. Just last month, Gossip Cop busted OK!‘s sister outlet, Life & Style, for wrongly reporting that DeGeneres was retiring and her possible replacements included Neil Patrick Harris, Chrissy Teigen and Ellie Kemper. That article made no mention of Bell being in the running.
In addition to not knowing much about DeGeneres’ career, OK! doesn’t have any more insight into her personal life. Just a few weeks ago, Gossip Cop called out the magazine for falsely claiming DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi were having a baby through IVF. In reality, the talk show host herself has said several times that she doesn’t want kids.
Back in 2017, Gossip Cop corrected the outlet for wrongly alleging DeGeneres an de Rossi were headed for a split amid so-called “marriage problems.” Of coure, the happy spouses are still going strong. This latest article surrounding the talk show host’s supposed replacement plan is also phony.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
