Ellen DeGeneres has secretly been in love with Jennifer Aniston for 30 years? That's the far-fetched premise in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop has learned it's completely ridiculous.
According to NW, however, the talk show host has had feelings for the actress ever since they met 30 years ago. "Ellen has always had the hots for Jen," an alleged insider tells the magazine. "She's adored Jen since she was on Friends. She was a huge fan of the show."
The supposed source goes on to say that DeGeneres and Aniston have been spending many nights "having a few glasses of wine and pouring their hearts out to each other," much to the dismay of the DeGeneres' wife, Portia de Rossi. "Portia isn't pleased to say the least," adds the seemingly made-up tipster. "She has always been insecure about their marriage — the anxiety gets to her."
The suspicious insider adds, "She's jealous that Ellen has been spending so much time with Jen and accused her of sneaking around behind her back. She knows Ellen always had a thing for Jen." From there, the questionable source claims DeGeneres and de Rossi "had a huge fight" over Aniston, which resulted in the talk show host storming out of their house. "Things aren't good between them right now and Jen is caught in the middle."
The tabloid's report is utter nonsense. For starters, de Rossi is good pals with the Friends star as well. Last year, in fact, Aniston supported de Rossi at the launch party for her new art company, General Public. Regardless, the idea that DeGeneres has been pining for Aniston for decades is absurd. The talk show host has been close friends with the actress for years, but she's never had romantic feelings for her and certainly doesn't have any now. Gossip Cop ran the scenario by a source close to DeGeneres, who laughed it off completely.
Additionally, DeGeneres posted a loving tribute to de Rossi on Instagram in honor of their 11th wedding anniversary in August. Along with a photo of the two on their wedding day, the TV host wrote, "Happy anniversary, Portia. 11 years. My favorite number with my favorite person."
It's worth noting, Gossip Cop has debunked similar narratives in the past. Last year, we busted New Idea for falsely claiming de Rossi had "warned" Aniston to stay away from DeGeneres. There's never been any sort of love triangle or jealousy surrounding the three stars. As for NW, this isn't the first time the magazine has tried to exploit one of the talk show host's friendships with a famous actress. Gossip Cop called out the publication last year for making up a story about Drew Barrymore begging DeGeneres to find her a girlfriend. This latest article involving Aniston is more fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
