Ellen DeGeneres is not getting a "$360 million divorce" from Portia de Rossi, despite a report. Gossip Cop can debunk the story, which comes from the tabloids.
A headline in the current edition of In Touch blares, "The Ring Is Off! Ellen's $360 Million Divorce." The tabloid asserts, "Ellen DeGeneres finally accepts that her marriage is over and prepares to fight Portia de Rossi over her fortune." The talk show host was photographed without her wedding ring earlier this month, and according to a so-called "insider," "For Ellen to actually ditch her ring is a huge sign."
The gossip magazine says it means "she's finally faced the truth" that her "marriage is over." "Ellen took the ring off after she and Portia realized their issues couldn't be worked out," contends the supposed source, who maintains, "It's happing. She and Portia are breaking up." The outlet puts the blame on "years of problems dominated by a heartbreaking power struggle," and contends now that the "marriage has crumbled," the comedienne's "$360 million fortune" is "up for grabs."
"There's no turning back. It's just a matter of time before the whole world knows," adds the publication's alleged tipster. But Gossip Cop wonders if this is the same purported "insider" who told the tabloid in 2015 that DeGeneres and de Rossi were on the verge of a split. Or maybe it's the one who led the magazine to run a "divorce bombshell" cover about DeGeneres and de Rossi in 2016.
Curiously, that tale was about a "$345 million divorce," while this new one ups the ante to $360 million. Of course, that discrepancy and the continued misinformation may not be the fault of any "insider," but the work of the magazine entirely on its own. The outlet has been publishing inaccurate marriage trouble and divorce stories about the couple for years, making it easy to suspect they're just making it all up every few months. Perhaps In Touch is betting that some day its tales will align with reality, given that most celebrity pairs tend to go their separate ways eventually. But for now, Gossip Cop is assured the publication remains woefully out of touch.
And by the way, it seems this latest split story was sparked solely because DeGeneres appeared ringless in public. But it's worth noting the host is also without her ring at home in the below Instagram photos posted by de Rossi herself just days ago. In other words, there's no reason to read into the lack of a ring, and Gossip Cop suspects the tabloid will try to weasel out of the contention in the future.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
