Elisabeth Moss is not dating Alex Ross Perry, contrary to a tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the story. We’re told the stars are simply longtime close friends.

But Star features a headline in its current issue announcing, “Elisabeth Mad About Alex.” According to the tabloid, the actress is “secretly seeing” the director. A so-called “source” is quoted as saying, “Elisabeth was so terrified of dating again after she left [ex-husband Fred Armisen], so it helps that she and Alex started off as friends.”

“Alex has been one of Elisabeth’s biggest supporters and a natural confidant,” continues the gossip magazine’s supposed snitch. “People were pushing for them to hook up from the start, but judging by how inseparable they are these days, it seems to have already happened.”

Of course, the best of friends can be inseparable, too. It doesn’t necessarily mean the pals are dating. And in this case, “it is SO not true,” one contact close to the pair tells Gossip Cop exclusively, stressing, “They are NOT a romantic item.” In addition, a rep for Moss also told us that Star didn’t bother to fact-check its story before running with it. If the outlet had reached out for confirmation, it would have learned that its dating narrative is inaccurate.

What’s more is that Perry is married. Yes, you read that correctly. He tied the knot with visual artist Anna Bak-Kvapil last year after nearly a decade of dating. He and Moss have worked on two films together and may spend a fair amount of time hanging out, but it’s a strictly platonic situation.

Star was also responsible for a false story about Moss last August, wrongly claiming she was feuding with Nicole Kidman. With the actress’ profile only growing with the post-“Mad Men” success of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Gossip Cop suspects she’ll continue to be a tabloid target. We’ll keep separating fact from fiction as necessary.
