Dolly Parton did not say that the recent onslaught of natural disasters in California is punishment for people in Hollywood “embracing Satan,” despite a ridiculous report. The claim comes from a site that frequently publishes fake news. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.

According to YourNewsWire, the country singer went on rant about the “Biblical disasters” plaguing Los Angeles during her popular dinner show, Dolly Parton’s Stampede. The site quotes Parton as having told guests, “California just keeps on being hit by disaster after disaster as foretold in the Bible,” referring to the recent series of fires and floods devastating parts of the state.

The unreliable outlet further claims that Parton chalked up the catastrophes to “the sexual abuse scandals rocking Hollywood.” She supposedly added, “They are being punished for embracing Satan and rejecting God. When they get hit with the ‘Big One,'” referencing the possibility of a magnitude 8 earthquake hitting the region sometime in the future, “then we will know that the End Times have truly begun.”

But Gossip Cop looked into Parton’s supposed diatribe, and we can confirm that it’s entirely fabricated. The country star never proclaimed that California is suffering natural disasters because its inhabitants worship the devil. Had Parton actually made such comments at one of her dinner shows, YourNewsWire wouldn’t be the only outlet reporting about it.

Oddly enough, Parton’s dinner attraction did make headlines this week, but it’s not because the singer ranted about Hollywood “embracing Satan.” Instead, many outlets covered the news that the the Southern term “Dixie” is being removed from the show’s name. One would think the journalists who covered that topic would also note that the singer blamed California’s disasters on the devil had that actually happened.

Unfortunately, this absurd article isn’t too surprising. The untrustworthy blog has a long history of making up stories about various celebrities having ties to dark forces, including Miley Cyrus, Jay Z, Rihanna, Drake and Katy Perry, to name a few. This latest story featuring Parton flips the script by having a celebrity calling out the entertainment industry for worshiping “Satan,” but it’s equally ludicrous.
