David Cassidy is dead. The 67-year-old star died on Tuesday of organ failure. Cassidy, of course, was best known for starring on “The Partridge Family,” which aired from 1970 to 1974.

A rep for Cassidy tells Gossip Cop in a statement, “On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”

As Gossip Cop reported, Cassidy was hospitalized in Florida after his health gradually deteriorated over the last two months. Both his liver and kidney were failing, and a transplant of the former was said to be critical for his survival. It was initially said he was placed in a medically induced coma, but a spokesperson for the actor said he was in and out of consciousness. Sadly, his condition worsened, and he later died surrounded by his family.

In February, Cassidy revealed he was battling dementia after footage emerged of the star performing erratically in California and forgetting the lyrics to some of his own songs. In an interview with People, he later said his struggles with memory loss were affecting his music career, and announced he was retiring to focus on his health. “I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions. I want to love. I want to enjoy life,” Cassidy shared. He went on to add that his mother and grandfather both suffered from the same disease. “I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming,” he admitted.

Throughout his lengthy career, Cassidy struggled with alcohol addiction and runs-in with the law. Between 2010 and 2014, he was arrested three times for drink driving and was ordered to go to rehab as part of his prison sentence. But in his interview earlier this year, he seemed committed to turning his life around. Gossip Cop now extends condolences to all of Cassidy’s friends, family and fans.
