David Beckham and Victoria Beckham did not renew their vows during their vacation in France last month, despite a made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the claim. The spouses of 19 years are going strong, but no vow renewal ceremony took place.
Last month, the Beckhams and their kids were spotted in the South of France with Elton John and his husband David Furnish. According to New Idea, the former soccer star and fashion designer renewed their vows at some point during the vacation. The magazine provides absolutely zero details about the supposed ceremony, except to say that it was a "low-key" affair. In fact, it was so "low-key" that it didn't happen.
The outlet goes on to say that the couple decided to renew their commitment to one another after suffering through rumors that David had an affair with their daughter's teacher. Of course, that never happened and the spouses weren't troubled in any way by the bogus story.
In the October 2018 cover story of Vogue that features the Beckhams, Victoria slams the divorce rumors, telling the publication, "People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are pretty used to ignoring the nonsense and just carrying on as normal." Meanwhile, People reported last week that David and Victoria "ignore chatter about cheating."
Here's what the tabloid also fails to mention. The Beckhams already renewed their vows. In a January 2017 interview with BBC radio, David revealed, "We have renewed our vows since [our first wedding]. It was a lot more private, about six people there in our house." The former soccer star didn't reveal when the ceremony took place, but it's believed to have occurred shortly before the interview. It's highly unlikely that the spouses decided to exchange vows again less than two years later.
Regardless, the magazine's story is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable "source" who provides virtually zero details about the Beckhams' supposed vow renewal ceremony in France. Gossip Cop, however, is told by a spokesperson qualified to speak on behalf of the couple that no ceremony took place. The publication's report is simply fabricated.
The tabloids have been claiming for years that the Beckhams are headed for a split, but Victoria dismissed those years of baseless reports in the family's Vogue cover story. It's possible that her comments inspired New Idea to switch course and instead create a storyline about the couple renewing their vows. This latest narrative might be a more positive spin, but that doesn't make it any more accurate.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
