(Congressional Baseball Game for Charity)

The 2017 Congressional Baseball Game is being held Thursday night, and Gossip Cop has a live stream available online. Watch the charity event below.

The annual game has garnered more attention this year as a result of Wednesday’s shooting at the congressional baseball practice. As Gossip Cop reported, at least six people were hospitalized when a gunman opened fire at a practice being held by the Republican team in Arlington, Virgina. Among those injured were two Capitol police officers and Rep. Steve Scalise, who remains in critical condition after being shot in the hip. The suspected shooter was killed by authorities. Despite the shocking incident, the charity game will still take place as planned at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

The event originated in 1909 and sees both Democrats and Republicans coming together to play America’s favorite pastime. Lawmakers from both the Senate and House team up with other members of their party in the good-natured competition. General admission tickets cost just $10, with the proceeds from the game going to D.C area charities including the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, the Washington Literacy Center, and the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation. The game’s official website dubs it as “the only annual partisan showdown beloved by all and enjoyed by thousands.”

The 2017 Congressional Baseball Game for Charity kicks off at 7 p.m. ET, with British Ambassador Kim Darroch throwing the first pitch. Watch the live stream below! NOTE: The live stream is no longer available.
