Coco Box Office

Coco won the Thanksgiving weekend box office while bringing moviegoers of all ages to tears. Get the details, and check out all of the Top 10 films below!

Coco is the latest critically-acclaimed movie from Pixar. Inspired by the Mexican holiday Day Of The Dead, the film focuses on a young boy who ends up going on a surprising journey across the land of the dead. The voice cast includes Benjamin Bratt and Gael Garcia Bernal. While the flick only opened in theaters on Wednesday, a number of stars have been tweeting about how much they loved the musical, emotional story. Famous fans include Josh Gad, Kerry Washington and Trevor Noah.

Despite all the obvious support for the movie, some observers were concerned that sexual misconduct allegations surrounding Pixar boss John Lasseter would affect its box office performance. Fortunately, that didn’t turn out to be the case. Coco easily took first place with $49 million for the holiday weekend. That was enough to knock last week’s top-chopper, Justice League, from its throne. This time around, the DC superheroes film made $40.7 million for a second-place finish.

Wonder followed in a much distant third with a haul of $22.3 million, while Thor: Ragnarok brought in $16.8 million for the number four spot. And, Daddy’s Home 2 just edged out Murder On The Orient Express to nab fifth. It earned $13.25 million.

Rounding out the Top 10 was Murder On The Orient Express in sixth with $13 million, followed in seventh by The Star. The animated Nativity-themed kids’ movie made $6.9 million. Coming in eighth was A Bad Moms Christmas with $5 million. Roman J. Israel, Esq secured ninth with $4.5 million. And just making it into the Top 10 was Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. The movie earned $4.4 million.
