Clint Eastwood is a known detractor of Barack Obama, but did he really deem the former commander-in-chief the “worst president” who “looted America”? Those are the claims that surfaced on Wednesday, but the story in question appears to be filled with fake quotes. Gossip Cop can debunk the report.

YourNewsWire contends in this suspicious article that Eastwood recently said Obama “looted America like a mobster” and ran “the dirtiest business in the town,” to the point where he will be judged as “the very worst president in the history of the United States — by some distance.” It’s alleged the famed director made these comments in London “while promoting his new film, 15:17 To Paris.” Tellingly, however, no date is given nor is anything specifically said about in what context or venue the remarks were supposedly made.

Without providing an exact where or when, the site just goes on to attribute various anti-Obama quotes to Eastwood, such as, “The great shame of the Obama administration was the way he looted ordinary Americans, and then put out hit-jobs on anybody who dared to question his White House.” The outlet further claims the filmmaker accused Obama’s presidency of being “rigged” and “hanging by a thread of cover-ups.” An additional alleged quote reads, “There is a good film in all this. A cautionary tale about a Republic in crisis. But America is not ready for it yet. The third act isn’t finished. We need arrests.”

Eastwood has wrongly criticized Obama in the past, perhaps most infamously at the 2012 Republican National Convention. Shortly after, he did an interview in which Eastwood declared that “President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.” So it is not far-fetched to think the politically-opinionated star might have actually said some of the things alleged above. And the trailer for The 15:17 To Paris just came out a week ago.

But there is no evidence he made any comments about Obama at a London event for the film. In fact, a simple Google search indicates that the purported quotes originated from YourNewsWire with no other sourcing. They appear to be completely fabricated, and the website actually has a documented history of manufacturing fake quotes from celebrities, particularly when it comes to bashing the former president. For example, earlier this month Gossip Cop busted a story that falsely claimed Denzel Washington called Obama the “criminal-in-chief.”

Unlike Washington, though, who has openly supported Obama in the past, Eastwood hasn’t had the nicest things to say about the Democratic leader. That doesn’t, however, mean any of these alleged quotes are real. And from what Gossip Cop can tell, they aren’t.
