Were Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber “on the rocks”? That was the premise behind a magazine report from a year ago that claimed they were inches away from getting a divorce. At the time, Gossip Cop noted their relationship was perfectly fine and, of course, the two are still happily married.

According to a story from Closer, Crawford and Gerber were “living separate lives.” The outlet further asserted 12 months ago that their marriage had been plagued by “drama” for many years. But glaringly missing from the article was any proof whatsoever that their marriage was “on the rocks” or specific examples of issues they’ve supposedly had in their more than two decades together as husband and wife.

Not only did Crawford’s rep shoot down the tabloid’s tale’s 365 days ago and assure Gossip Cop there were “no problems” in the supermodel’s marriage, but Crawford and Gerber themselves have often declared their love for one another on social media. In fact, weeks before the magazine’s story, the spouses used Instagram to gush about each other on their 20th wedding anniversary.

And nothing has changed since then. The two remain very much in love. Just five weeks ago on their 21st anniversary, alongside a photo of them kissing at their wedding, Crawford wrote on Instagram, “Happy anniversary @randegerber. Can’t imagine this journey with anyone else. I love you!” And for his part, Gerber commemorated the day on Instagram with a message that read, “I didn’t just choose the most beautiful girl in the world, I chose the girl that made my world more beautiful. Happy anniversary my Angel!”

Clearly, those aren’t the words of a couple that’s “on the rocks.” It bears mentioning, the tabloid’s article was based entirely on the contentions of an unnamed and possibly fabricated “source.” As Gossip Cop points out from time to time, it’s important to assess where the claims are coming from. Such as in this case, when a rep and/or celebrity comments on the record and takes ownership for what they’re saying, it’s far more reliable than remarks from an anonymous and unaccountable individual.

Suffice to say, as Gossip Cop reported a year ago, the story about Crawford and Gerber getting a divorce was wrong then, and it’s still false to this day. It also brings up another point that we occasionally make, which is that a regurgitated lie is still a lie. In addition to holding tabloids responsible for their tales, we frequently reexamine previously published articles to help readers decide which outlets they can and cannot trust.

Gossip Cop first debunked talk of a Crawford and Gerber divorce when it was floated more than a year ago by OK!. It was still incorrect when Closer tried it. And it was no more accurate when the magazine’s sister outlets RadarOnline and the National Enquirer alleged last December that Crawford and Gerber were getting a “billion-dollar divorce” by the end of 2018. The only thing that’s truly rocky is the unfounded reporting about Gerber and Crawford.
