Kaia Gerber is rapidly rising through the social ranks of both Hollywood and the modeling world, and her success is no surprise considering her mother’s career. Cindy Crawford has kept her daughter on the path to success so far, which includes navigating the nonstop coverage one receives as a celebrity. Gossip Cop has already had to correct several false rumors about Gerber, and we’ve noticed a recurring trend of stories about Crawford trying to control her daughter’s personal life.
In February 2018, NW claimed Crawford was ordering her daughter to stay away from Kristen Stewart. The then-16-year-old was seen hanging out with Stewart and her then-girlfriend, Stella Maxwell. An “insider” said Crawford was terrified that her daughter would get “sucked into the Hollywood party scene” by the actress and her model girlfriend. According to a phony “source,” Crawford didn’t think the two older stars were the “right kind of friends” her daughter needed. The outlet argued that Crawford’s biggest issue with the friendship was the possibility of it detracting from Gerber’s own career.
Instead of relying on a nameless source, Gossip Cop checked with Crawford’s spokesperson. The supermodel’s rep told us on the record that the story was total fiction. Crawford had no problems with her daughter’s friendship, nor did she take issue with Stewart or Maxwell.
A few months later, the tabloid published another piece about Gerber and her mother. This time, it alleged that Crawford told her daughter to avoid Justin Bieber. The magazine maintained that Crawford was antsy about Bieber’s influence on her daughter after they were both spotted at a mutual friend’s birthday party. Similar to its Kristen Stewart story, the tabloid again brought up how Crawford was supposedly worried about Bieber and his “fast young crowd” and didn’t want her daughter’s career or health to be put in jeopardy.
However, we ran this claim by Crawford’s rep, who told us it was just as fake as the previous piece. The legendary model simply wasn’t trying to control her daughter’s social circle. The only thing of note that occurred at the birthday party was Gerber posing for photos and Bieber cheering her on.
Earlier this month, Woman’s Day incorrectly reported that Crawford warned Gerber stay away from SNL star Pete Davidson. The tabloid’s “sources” claimed Crawford was in “panic mode” after her daughter was spotted hanging out with the comedian. Crawford, the insider said, was painfully aware of Davidson’s habit of “burning through women” and didn’t want her daughter to have to deal with the social or emotional repercussions of dating him.
Gerber, for her part, swore they were “just friends” and urged “everyone to take a chill pill,” the insider said. Still, the magazine concluded that Crawford’s motherly worries wouldn’t be stopped by a simple reassurance. While Gerber and Davidson’s relationship — romantic or not — continues to develop, the rest of the story was totally bogus. Crawford’s spokesperson told us that any rumors about Crawford advising her daughter on Davidson were untrue. As with the rest of these claims, it was just a made-up story to sell magazines. While Crawford is still Gerber’s mother and wants nothing but the best for her, she loves and trusts her daughter enough to let her make her own decisions.
Our Verdict
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
