Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber are not getting divorced, despite a report in the tabloids. The untrue story is bullsplit, and Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk it.
Inside the new issue of Star, a headline exclaims, "Cindy & Rande: $1 Billion Divorce Shocker." According to the tabloid, a "heated battle over their kids may have pushed Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber to the point of calling it quits on their long-troubled marriage." Bizarrely, the article begins by referring to an alleged 2013 incident in which Crawford supposedly flirted with men at a concert and said her marriage was "over" as Gerber watched "from afar, completely unfazed."
The gossip magazine uses that as a jumping-off point to assert the couple's marriage has "been strained for quite sometime," and they've "now reached a new low in their relationship." "They've been fighting like cats and dogs about their teen son, Presley, and his decision to pursue a modeling career, just like his mom," contends the outlet, which alleges Gerber's unhappiness about that decision is why he and his wife are supposedly on the brink of a split after nearly 20 years of marriage.
In rather unnatural language, a purported "insider" is quoted as saying, "Curiously, Rande seems to have no problem with their 15-year-old daughter, Kaia, who looks just like her mom, following in Cindy's well-heeled footsteps." The publication's purported source also raises suspicion by rattling off information about Kaia's career as if this was a biography. And further suggesting that this alleged snitch doesn't have first-hand knowledge of the situation, the person uses phrases like "I heard," as if these claims came through the grapevine. This "insider" also assumes that "seeing their parents at war has got to be painful" for Kaia and Presley, as opposed to actually knowing for sure whether it is or isn't.
And Star is admittedly unsure if the couple is actually breaking up, using wording like "if Cindy and Rande are headed for divorce." Conveniently, though, its specious tipster sums everything up by saying, "At this point, I'm worried this is something they can't talk through and work out between themselves. They've already been dealing with reports over the years about Rande cheating on her with multiple women, and Cindy's been simmering with anger and resentment for a long time. If they finally decide to split, with so much money involved, it could get very nasty. This could be a $1 billion divorce!"
"I think she's been putting up with him for a long time, and I wouldn't be surprised if she's finally reached her limit," the alleged source further says of Crawford. But this isn't something that is a matter of opinion, and Star shouldn't be basing a purported news story on what this this random person thinks may happen or should happen. It should be based on facts, and it's pretty clear with just a little investigating that the tabloid's contentions here are inaccurate. The piece is largely hinged on Crawford being upset Gerber doesn't support Presley's modeling career, yet in June he posted video on Instagram of his son walking the runway during Paris Fashion Week.
He was also with Presley at the Daily Front Row Awards earlier this year, where the teen was honored for his work as a rising model in the fashion industry. As for Crawford, contrary to the tipster's assertion that she's "had it up to here with Rande," she actually posted of photo of him on a "moonlit cruise" just hours before this story hit newsstands. It's as if Star and its alleged source, if the person even really exists, crafted this narrative in an alternate reality, as they've willfully ignored readily available evidence that goes against the claims. And, as Gossip Cop has often pointed out, this tabloid has a habit of making up divorce stores about certain celebrities and tying them to a specific number.
For example, there was Julia Roberts' "$275 million divorce" nearly a year ago, and Kim Kardashian's "$1 billion divorce" in early 2016. Both women are still with their respective spouses, and those stories were proven in time to be fabrications, just as Gossip Cop said they were. Now we're exclusively assured this tale about Crawford divorcing Gerber can also join the trash heap. A contact close to the couple bluntly says the article is "not true" and "asinine."
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
