Cindy Crawford was a dominant force in the modeling world in her heyday, easily earning the title of the most famous model in the world. Now, years later, her daughter, Kaia Gerber seems poised to earn the crown herself as she rises through the ranks of the most acclaimed models. Of course, the nature of the industry means that the tabloids are eager to stir up imaginary drama between the two. Every single year for the past three years, Gossip Cop has debunked some sort of rumor about Crawford trying to control Gerber’s career.
Earlier this year, OK! falsely claimed that Crawford was preventing her daughter from launching her own makeup line a la Kylie Jenner. According to the tabloid, Gerber was eager to get started on her own cosmetics empire after seeing the unbridled success of Jenner’s own company. Her mother, however felt that she was “too young to start a business” and that the whole thing would just be added stress in an already busy life.
Meanwhile, the outlet’s source said, Gerber was complaining to her friends that her mom was “jealous” of her career. The tipster concluded by noting that this shocked Crawford, but her friends told her to wait for her daughter’s anger to blow over.
Rather than trust an unknown and unidentifiable “tipster,” Gossip Cop ran the story by Crawford’s official representative. They told us on the record that the claim was total fiction. Crawford’s supported and encouraged her daughter’s blossoming career, so there’s no real reason to believe she’d suddenly want to hamstring it.
Last December, OK! published a made-up story about Crawford trying to reclaim the spotlight from Gerber. The outlet’s source said that Gerber was trying to get her mother to “back off” so she could “make a name for herself” in the modeling world. As evidence, the mysterious tipster pointed to the British Fashion Awards, where Gerber won Model of the Year. The source argued that Crawford tried to get into every photo with Gerber. The insider also said that Crawford has been trying to set up photoshoots with just her and her daughter.
Again, we checked the spokesperson for both Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber. They assured us that there wasn’t an ounce of truth in the rumor. There were plenty of individual photos of Crawford and Gerber respectively. We also pointed out that Gerber posed with every member of her family multiple times. There was no “spotlight stealing” going on whatsoever.
One year before that, RadarOnline said that Crawford forbid her daughter from appearing on Keeping Up with the Kardashians with Kendall Jenner. The gossip site cited another anonymous tipster for the claim. The source said that Crawford was desperately trying to keep Kaia from joining the show since Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber, supposedly had “their own show in the works.” The entire story then spiraled into a whole narrative about Kaia betraying her family by going against her parents’ wishes for the fame promised by KUWTK.
In reality, it was just a bunch of regurgitated rumors that Gossip Cop had already busted. Cindy Crawford had no plans for a show of her own. Kaia Gerber had no plans to appear on any show. Crawford was totally fine with her daughter spending time with the Kardashians and Jenners. As we’ve said year after year: Crawford and Gerber aren’t fighting for control or power with one another. While they’re both massively influential in the modeling world, they’re still mother and daughter.
Our Verdict
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
