Christina Aguilera and Matt Rutler are not secretly married, despite a bogus tabloid report claiming the couple quietly wed in Italy in September. Gossip Cop looked into the supposed nuptials and we've exclusively learned the truth.
According to OK!, the singer and her fiance of nearly four years made a last-minute decision to elope while on vacation in Venice. A so-called "source" tells the magazine, "They have been going back and forth with wedding plans for years, but in the end they wanted to be spontaneous... A bohemian elopement to Europe was the perfect way to seal their commitment to each other."
The questionable insider further contends that the pair exchanged vows during a romantic gondola ride, adding, "With it being just the two of them, they took the opportunity to speak from the heart. They made deeply personal promises to each other. Despite her tough-girl persona, Christina surely shed a few tears." But if these supposed vows were private, intimate and just between "the two of them," how exactly does the tabloid's "source" know all about it? Did the boat tell the magazine?
The seemingly nonexistent insider goes on to say that the couple still plan to have an official wedding in California next spring. "Christina and Matt were excited to spread their good news to their family and friends when they got back home," says the alleged source. "Everyone has been anxious for them to tie the knot, and now they feel they can truly go about planning a proper affair without the nerves." How exactly does exchanging vows privately take away from the "nerves" of "planning a proper affair," with all that goes into it, including booking a band, caterer, venue, photographer and figuring out a guest list?
Regardless of how transparently phony the story is, Gossip Cop still fact-checked with a source close to Aguilera, who exclusively assures us on background that the singer and her fiance didn't elope in Italy. The engaged couple simply isn't secretly wed. Aguilera herself has admitted in the past that she's not in a hurry to get married, and the singer hasn't expressed a different sentiment as of late. But regardless of when she and Rutler end up walking down the aisle, they haven't already done so in secret. And no legitimate outlet has claimed she's married.
It should be noted, OK! is hardly a reliable source when it comes to finding accurate news about the singer. Gossip Cop previously busted the magazine for wrongly reporting that Aguilera would be a judge on the "American Idol" reboot. This latest article is equally false.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
