Christina Aguilera was "dumped" by Matthew Rutler, according to a provably false tabloid report. This story also wrongly attempts to body-shame the singer. Gossip Cop can bust it.
A headline in the current edition of Star shamefully announces, "Christina Aguilera: Dumped & Huge!" Contends the magazine, "With her romance on the rocks, the depressed diva is packing on the pounds." The impetus for the article appears to be sightings of Aguilera without her engagement ring.
"Matt and Christina had been arguing nonstop over anything and everything for months. She's always been a total diva, but after all these years, Matt's patience finally ran out," a so-called "source" is quoted as saying. This supposed insider specifically alleges, "He dumped her, and she ripped off the ring in a fit of rage."
The outlet goes on to claim, "Inconsolable over the split, Christina started to eat her feelings — and never stopped." An unnamed, untraceable "pal" asserts, "She's been stuffing herself with junk food and gorging on fried chicken, burgers and ice cream. She's already put on at least 65 pounds, which would bring her up to 223." Apparently the publication expects readers to believe a real "friend" of Aguilera's shared her weight and eating habits with the gossip media.
What's also suspicious is that after all that, the tabloid suddenly changes course, saying "things may not be totally over for Christina and Matthew." The magazine acknowledges Aguilera and Rutler stepped out for a Sleep No More show on June 18, "but her ring remained off." Sure, the pop star may not have been wearing her engagement bling, but she was also photographed linking arms with her beau.
What's more is that just one day ago, Aguilera shared on Instagram a video of herself and Rutler engaging in PDA during the July Fourth holiday this year and over years past. The couple is quite obviously still together. Additionally, the footage shows the former child star isn't "huge" at all. And in May, Rutler posted a tribute to Aguilera on Instagram, in which he wrote, "You are my life, my partner, my love, my best friend, and the mother to our children."
Referencing her musical comeback, Rutler went on, "I am so excited for what this next chapter in life holds for you. The music, the unexpected adventures, the laughs, the cries, and everything else the world will throw our way. And through it all, I'll always have your back. I love you."
Conclusion: Star claims Aguilera has been "dumped" and has gained a significant amount of weight as a result. But the couple's outing two weeks ago, combined with the singer's Instagram post this week, shows they haven't split. Additionally, the photos Aguilera shared don't indicate she's gained "at least 65 pounds." It should also be mentioned that this same tabloid wrongly maintained Aguilera and Rutler's engagement was off in early May. Just days later, he posted the aforementioned tribute. It seems the outlet keeps breaking up with the facts.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
